Think about the things you have to believe, or pretend to believe, to be a Republican politician in good standing. You have to claim that tax cuts for the rich pay for themselves; that climate change is a hoax, or at any rate that nothing can be done about it; etc., etc. 2/
The result is that anyone with actual principles has been driven out of the party. Everyone, and I mean everyone, who is left is a cynical opportunist. Of course they will defend Trump no matter what; their careers are all that matter 3/
Don't bothsides this. Dems aren't saints; some answer to big donors, some are rigid ideologues who don't care about evidence. But only one party cares at all about truth and rule of law. 4/
