As you may have seen this morning, I’ve made the difficult decision to end my campaign for US Senate. Sometimes some obstacles are too great to overcome, and that is the situation my candidacy finds itself in.
Over the last eight months, I have had an incredible privilege: to be a candidate for the United States Senate. Since entering this race last May, I have been to hundreds of events, visited every corner of Massachusetts, and had the opportunity to speak to thousands of voters.
Those I spoke with shared with me their personal stories, challenged me when we disagreed and inspired me to keep moving forward on this campaign. Most importantly they gave me hope for a better future. I got into this race knowing the path to victory would be long and difficult
I took on battles against Uber, FedEx, and Harvard University knowing that the path to victory would be long and difficult. I took the fight to these and other companies to protect workers and to fight injustice. I decided to run for Senate for the same reasons.
While this campaign is over, my passion for fairness, for justice, and for equitable treatment continues to burn. I've spent the last 30 years advocating for women, workers, and the disenfranchised, and I plan to spend the next 30 doing just that.
We need more women in the Senate, and I hoped to add to that count this year. While I won't add to the number of women in Congress in 2020, I will be doing all I can over the next several months to help elect the first woman President, Elizabeth Warren.
I know that whoever wins this race will be a strong advocate for Democratic values. I have enjoyed getting to know @EdMarkey and @joekennedy during this campaign. They are both inspiring people and I will be a proud constituent of either.
@EdMarkey @joekennedy Thank you for your support, and your belief, throughout this campaign. You inspire me every day, and I was so honored to run to be your Senator. Together, we will continue to fight for the rights of working people across the country and everyone whose voices need to be heard
