I hope impeachment doesn’t become a common partisan tool, but people tend to overestimate the impact. There is rightly a very high bar for removing a President from office. It’s very hard to clear that bar without just cause, and often difficult even with such cause.
I don't think it will become too common because it is just as likely to backfire on those pursuing it as on the target if they can't convince a large majority of Americans they are justified in doing so. Pols will always vote whichever way is in their own interest.
If members of Congress can convince a large majority of Americans that impeachment is justified, Congress will impeach. If they can't or it's split on partisan lines, they won't.

Then the final verdict will be rendered by American voters in the following election.
