@ErikaKate5 @CourthouseNews Today at 9AM ET, the House debates the impeachment resolution. I covered the (very long) markup session for the resolution last night. Things were... tense. Missed my story? Read it here.

@ErikaKate5 @CourthouseNews A vote on the resolution is expected to happen around noon ET, but depending on delay tactics, this could go much longer. I'll have updates for @CourthouseNews, so stay tuned!
#ImpeachmentInquiry
@ErikaKate5 @CourthouseNews House Rules Committee chairman Jim McGovern on Republicans outrage over inquiry process: "I don’t think there’s any process that we could propose for Republicans," that would satisfy them, he says. Because they "want to circle the wagons around this president" regardless.
@ErikaKate5 @CourthouseNews Rep Devin Nunes, after saying Democrats "spoon-feed" the media defamatory and libelous conspiracies about present and former members of House Intel adds: "What we're seeing in the SCIF right now is like a cult."
He continues:
Nunes, ref. to Schiff: "It's a group of people loyally following their leader as he bounces from one conspiracy theory to another and media are like cult followers, pretending to take everything seriously because they too support the goal of removing the president from office."
DEVELOPING: In the first impeachment-related showdown to hit the House floor, Thursday’s Halloween vote on a resolution outlining the inquiry marks a historic, if not necessarily frightening, prospect for some in the White House.

@CourthouseNews
@CourthouseNews McGovern to Lesko after she calls the impeachment inquiry a total sham: "You want to talk about a sham process, how about this: the WH ignores our duly authorized subpoenas, prevented witnesses from testifying, intimidates witnesses, disparages members of congress trying...
to fulfill their constitutional duty."

Then, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries went up and his remarks drew applause and cheers as he quoted James Madison.
Quoting James Madison: "The House should be a rival to the executive branch," @RepJeffries says.
"The founders didn’t want a king, they didn’t want a dictator. They wanted a democracy and that is exactly what we are defending right now. No one is above the law."

@RepJeffries .@SpeakerPelosi on the floor, starts off her comments by quoting the opening lines of the Constitution. She is standing next to a poster board of the American flag.
"The genius of the Constitution, the separation of powers, three co-equal branches of government to be a check and balance on each other," she marvels. "It is to that we take the oath of office."
Pelosi: "These actions, this process, making it available to the American people will inform Congress on the very difficult decisions we will have to make in the future as to whether to impeach the President."
Pelosi continues: "That decision has not been made, that’s what the inquiry will investigate and then we can make the decision based on the truth."
"I don’t know why Republicans are afraid of the truth. Every member should allow the American people to hear the facts for themselves. That’s what this vote is about. The truth. And what is at stake in all of this is nothing less than our democracy," -@SpeakerPelosi

@SpeakerPelosi Pelosi's comments drew applause.

Story to come for @CourthouseNews
@SpeakerPelosi @CourthouseNews DEVELOPING: The House brought President Trump one step closer to facing impeachment as lawmakers voted 232-196, split on party lines, in favor of a resolution that outlines precisely how the impeachment inquiry will unfold in the coming weeks and months.
