🧠 @RoamResearch has really been a game changer for my note taking & idea linking!

In just a week I've already generated a huge interlinked set of ideas, & for the first time been able to see those links clearly!

A big part of that is summarising articles

Thread 👇

#roamcult
Not every article makes it into my Roam database, only those which have some interesting points.

Let's take @pchandrasekar's recent article about the future of @StackOverflow as an example
stackoverflow.blog/2020/01/21/scr…

I first create a Link from the Daily Notes section

#roamcult
Filling out some basic metadata about the article helps link it to any authors I might know, using it like a CRM, and gives me a useful block for embedding elsewhere if needed.

You can also see the automatic link back to my Daily Notes section showing when I read it.

The entire contents of the article get dumped in next. This is so I can easily reference any paragraphs (blocks) elsewhere, as we'll see next in the "Highlights" section...

#roamcult
The "Highlights" section sits above the article contents.

It's a series of `/Block Embed`s, each referencing a single paragraph of the article followed by some tags summarising the main points.

#roamcult
Because tags are just like links, they create new pages with links back to where the appeared.

For example, this new "Community" page was generated out of the article.

With all the highlights done, the next section is the Summary.

The Summary sits above the Highlights and acts as a 1-2 paragraph summarisation of what I got out of the article (not necessarily everything that was in it).

#roamcult
Finally, I use another `/Block Embed` back on the Daily Notes section to surface the Summary.

#roamcult
I'm sure this will evolve as I use @RoamResearch more, but already the process is giving me useful insights I never got when using other tools.

Someone recently described using @RoamResearch as like playing a game where the goal is organising your knowledge. And it's actually fun!

Happy to be part of the #roamcult! 🧠❤️
