Gear engagement. Blue turns when engaged with yellow.
In hitting, our gears are aligned differently. We have a vertical gear that engages with a horizontal gear. But the engagement is very important. Gear engagement is where the snap is created.
A Ferris wheel that falls into a merry go round will create a snap.
But two merry go rounds will never snap. There is no gear engagement. No mechanical advantage gained. Hip rotation and shoulder rotation is a sluggish technique. You will push with your arms because you can feel the power outage.
Slow motion view of the Ferris wheel lowering into the merry go round. At full engagement the rear leg snaps.
It’s a bit like popping the clutch. Turning the barrel rearward with the hands AS the torso tilts in the hip socket, causes engagement with the turning leg......SNAP!!
Coiling and tilting some before engagement is the load/stretch. And achieves swing plane alignment with the torso which pivots over/around the ball of the rear femur. It is not spinal rotation. Actual engagement causes the launch.
There is a point where the hand pivot and the gear engagement feel as though the hand pivot is engaging with the hip socket. All slack is removed. Pivot is very tight. A pivot gear about the fists engages with the ball of the femur. By feel. This is the shortest quickest swing.
All slack removed. Hand pivot gear engaged with ball of rear femur gear. By feel. SNAP!!
Missing frames created.
Barrel turned rearward.....AS.....the rear leg turns forward. Short. Quick. SNAP!!
ALL the greats do this. It is THE ONE high level swing pattern. It is a separater. They each have their own surface.....their stance, their handset, their stride or not, etc, but they ALL have the same engine under the hood.
Gears. Snap.

Gear engagement. Snap.
Gear engagement. E to the 1. Snap.

No stride Gears. Snap.
Gears. Snap.
Ever wonder why organizations call their best players ‘freaks’? It’s because they have no idea what they are doing. They are doing the opposite of what they teach.....and their genius says.....”we’re still going to teach the opposite”. We are not going to teach freak.
So they continue with hip rotation, that has no chance of success. They continue with ‘get the foot down and become two legged’. That has no chance of success. They continue with A to B forward path. No chance of success. And simply hope for a hitter to stumble on to it.
There has never been a better example of insanity. Players know it. And go searching.
I had a lesson with two minor leaguers in ‘17. Great lesson. It was late August. At the end one of them said the season was long and grueling. When you do all the things they want you to do but don’t get better it’s exhausting. I got better today. I need this every day.
