This is sadly true for so much of our politics today. Consider:
1/ The @GOP that rode in with the tea party, waving Constitutions is now unwilling to defend the idea of co-equal branches of government.
2/ Reagan’s observation that when we stop welcoming immigrants we will cease to be Americans has been rejected by today’s @GOP.
3/ Nixon’s EPA has been gutted, attacked and made subservient to industry by today’s @GOP
4/ The party of Lincoln has become the party that would inflame our divisions rather than let the nation survive.
5/ The party of Grant, and Reconstruction has become the party of minority disenfranchisement.
6/ The party of Joseph McCarthy (of all people!) has become the party that cowers before Russian influence in American politics.
7/ The party that claims to celebrate the Rule of Law is opposed to holding trials with witnesses.
