Today in my lecture on WWI, some boys were being chatty in the back. I ignored it, because high school gonna high school

Got a nice note from the teacher saying she was sitting next to them & they were whispering about WWI & excited abt the topic
She said she'd never seen them this engaged & interested in a topic before.

I share this for all those who aren't sure if their words are sinking in when they teach. You never know when & where your words will take effect. Don't give up. Keep at it. You're making a difference.
Also, teachers, you're all my personal heroes

I have no idea how you're able to do what you do, day after day while also still having lives and families

But I'm thankful as hell for it

From the outside, this looks funny

But it's not funny when you're inside a group that thinks shit like this is normal. I was raised in so many different communities with religious nutjobs. And the only ppl scarier than the leaders were their followers. And the groupthink.
There are so many people lacking purpose & wisdom who turn to crackpots like this for guidance, who in turn damage other people's lives. So many kids raised inside horrible families...I've watched it. Watched close friends climb out of nightmare homes. Watched families torn apart
Not to mention that shit like calling for miscarriages is not only straight up awful, but imagine what her followers who have had miscarriages think? That God punished them for a "satanic" pregnancy. How insanely FUCKED is that?

My heart is so full.

Spent the last 2 1/2 hours with a 97yo veteran of WWII. He enlisted in 1939. I arrived to that same unit to take my first platoon in 2011.

He was full of stories. Literal twinkles in his eyes, which became mere joyful slits when he laughed, which was often
His first trip was to @PatDonahoeArmy's beloved Fort Drum, or as it was know at the time, Pine Camp for the 1939 First Army Maneuvers. His mortar platoon didn't have their 81mm mortars yet - so they used stovepipes
He got activated for the Louisiana Manuevers - the man who would later go on to combat in the South Pacific referred to his time in Louisiana as "One of the more miserable times." He claims to have invaded TX due to a map problem that got very problematic

Today I took exception to the way Scheer used his faith & "values" & injected them into a soundbite about the UCP & equality.
I share this story to illustrate my issue when I hear "Christian values".

It isn't really about the values. It's about the beliefs & the tribe of being a fellow believer.
Let me tell you a story. It's part of the story that caused me to become a secular activist (or an anti-unfair religious privilege activist) or whatever it is I am today.
When my wife & chose a school for our daughter we intentionally looked for a non-religious school. We aren't a religious family & wanted to teach our kids about religion at home.
So we selected a non-religious Public school.

Today in 1942 President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, under which nearly 75,000 American citizens of Japanese ancestry were taken into custody. Another 45,000 Japanese nationals living in the United States were also incarcerated. #DayOfRemembrance #EO9066 A black and white photograph of a family moving their things out to the street.
#EO9066 was issued ten weeks after Pearl Harbor. Toku Shimomura of Seattle described the news of the attack in her diary, writing “Our future has become gloomy. I pray that God will stay with us.” #DayOfRemembrance A diary with Japanese writing inside.
Three months after Pearl Harbor, Americans of Japanese ancestry and Japanese nationals living on the Pacific Coast and in southern Arizona were ordered to register and then report within a week to hastily designated temporary detention centers. #EO9066 #DayOfRemembrance Exclusion Orders 69, showing were Japanese citizens would have to leave the area.

Back in the courtroom today. I'll play a bit of catch up with you all now that I'm back down in the media room. A medical examiner finished up on the stand and then Bates's youngest daughter testified. I'll tweet out the notes in this thread. @KVUE kvue.com/article/news/l…
When court started up, the defense cross-examined the medical examiner we heard from yesterday. She testified that there were substances (meth) found in Bates's blood and clarified that her job is not to tell who committed the crime, just what was done.
Remember, yesterday she testified the cause of death was blunt force trauma and the manner was homicide.

Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
