Can I just remind the Unionists criticising the Scottish Government because the bridge shut for a day that the old bridge would have been closed on many more days. Indeed, I distinctly remember unionist MSP's voting against the construction of the new bridge....
Of course, halfway through its construction the trusses on the old bridge snapped disabling it for months and months. Had the new bridge not already been half-constructed, that would have happened again. Why?
Because the implemented fix was temporary until traffic could be transferred to the new bridge so the old one could be fixed permanently. Had it been left up to the unionist politicians and the media that protested against the new bridge even being built........
Diversion via Kincardine would have been a "thing", not for a day, but for years. What I will say is that if people bother to actually read the raw MET office reports, they will see that the weather conditions the past few days have been a complete freak.
Context is king! And the context with the new bridge is quite simple, had it been left up to labour and the tories, windy days and bridge damage to the old one would have cost commuters and the economy hundreds of millions of pounds.
