#storytime it’s #BlackHistoryMonth and I want to tell you all a little HIStory about my son. He is 14.5 years old and has an internship at Google. He is diagnosed with ADHD at 6 and has an IEP. I am going to tell you about systemic racism 1st hand.
At @SuccessCharters he went to their whitest location at the time (and still maybe) Upper West. He went there from 2011-2014. It was ran by predominantly white staff that probably considered themselves liberal and not racist. He was denied all his mandated services.
Instead of helping my son they suspended him. I know you’re probably thinking what does this have to do with #BlackHistory Well one day someone is going to do some research and my child is going to come up. Because he left this “school” 6 years ago & people still reach out to us
So anyways. Let’s go back to 2012. I have requested services at this @SuccessCharters and everyone keeps denying my child. I find out my son doesn’t go to a real school and the district won’t help me. I can’t get a parent advocate because I’m not a public school parent.
I learn that I now have to navigate this wreck called @NYCSchools to try to get some help. Well all while this is going on. There is a person at @SuccessCharters by the name of @jennleeper that is the person to navigate this with me. And help my son get services.
This woman doesn’t help my son or me. Instead she does everything in her power to block my son from getting services. So I get help from a professor @bmcc_cuny that over hears me crying to @NYCSchools on the phone in between classes.
So I end up eventually getting services for my son and @jennleeper after the IEP meeting says well it’s so late in the year let’s start services in the beginning of next year. At this time I didn’t know this was even illegal.
But this was just the beginning of the illegal activities that @jennleeper would do on behalf not only @SuccessCharters but @MoskowitzEva So now the New Years has began (2nd grade) and the founder of @zetaschools is harassing me.
At this time she was the head lawyer of @SuccessCharters here a picture for reference. 
Emily Kim is narrating me because I am emailing @jennleeper and the principal daily because they won’t provide his services that were agreed upon the previous school year. Just in case you think I was reaching the wrong person this is what her @LinkedIn says
And she says that other students need services before he does and that his case is mild. I aske this woman @jennleeper can she put this in writing and give me a hard copy of this. This woman goes on to tell me she doesn’t know what a “hard copy” is and has never heard this term.
Now I end up getting a special education lawyer that takes my case as a favor to a friend. And his name is Neal Rosenberg. He gets my son his services not only for this school year but the previous one as well.
Now note to you while all this is going on. I am a college student @bmcc_cuny and I work as a cake decorator at a bakery part time. @SuccessCharters harassed me so much I quit my job. I was taking my son to class with me and work because they would kick him out daily.
So in February 2013 I have surgery (I’m still in college) and my son catches pneumonia. @SuccessCharters bans me from the school during a snow storm. @MikeBloomberg closed schools early it was a Friday 2/8/13 and @jennleeper falsified my sons IEP
They suspended him for no reason and did not follow his Behavior Intervention Plan. I asked for his work for his suspension and was provided nothing and I said you can’t suspend him without his proper documents or commentary from his teachers. She lied to my face.
Went to her office and printed up a new IEP That I had never seen before. I told her this was illegal and I was calling my lawyer. Which I did but his office closed early because of the storm. The next Monday I was sent a letter saying I cursed out staff and was banned.
I honestly wished I cursed them out. I didn’t even have the strength to because I had just had surgery at St. Lukes hospital not even a week ago. I couldn’t even walk. I had to be taken on the elevator by staff.
Now remover how I said it was a blizzard and nobody was there!? It was three people there a woman named Katie Mcauthor a white man that was the business manager of this location and @jennleeper no one else. The school was empty. The streets were empty @NYCSchools were closed
But @SuccessCharters was still opened because @MoskowitzEva refused to close her schools until 3pm. Kids and staff left early. A family friend tried to pick up@my kid but the school wouldn’t release him to me because he was “suspended”.
Now this is just the beginning of the retaliation from @SuccessCharters the very next month @jennleeper calls the cops on my 7yearold son. She says that he punched her and she was in fear for her life. Now this is a n adult white woman mid to late 20s in fear of a 7year old 🙄
The school calls me to tell me they called the police on him and he is going to with EMS. The school refuses to tell me why over the phone. I get to ST Lukes hospital and I have to sign in as a visitor. Because he is now in custody of the hospital for a psych evaluation.
Becca this lying ass white woman said that she was in fear of my son that “punched” her and she felt her life was in danger. Now get this. When I walk into the area he is in there is a nurse outside the door and she is like security I guess. But guess who is in the room?
None other than @jennleeper !!!!
She smiles at me and says I rode over here with him in the ambulance and I changed him into the gown the hospital provided. I am livid! I calmly ask her to leave the room. Which she does. I stayed in there all night. We didn’t get home until 10pm

I trekked everyday to send my BLACK son to school from East NY while in college full time and working to give him a “great” education for him to instead be abused by white women at a charter school. It took us 2hrs everyday to get to @SuccessCharters
Now this is where the beginning of the end starts in desperation I reach out to @ClassSizeMatter I found out about this organization because I read a story about @ksprowal son. Because at this time I ano linger naive and I am fully capable of what these people are capable of.
Now note to you my son is released to me from the hospital because I was literally just seen the previous day by his psychiatrist. And she tells them nothing is wrong with his child. So he is released under the care of his psychiatrist and he must follow up and be seen in a week
At this point my son learns to tell no one anything. It’s not even taught but he has now learned that the people at school do not have your best interest and can take you away from home. So my son is suspended for three days. And I don’t know what to do.
I can’t send him back but @NYCSchools won’t place him anywhere and he can’t stay on the upper west side because @SuccessCharters is not considered a district school. So I’m screwed. During this time I am scrambling and having a mental breakdown. I decide to withdrawal from BMCC
Because I do this I end up owing @bmcc_cuny $3500+ but I won’t find this out until the next semester when I try to return. This is literally how people get stuck in poverty or a cycle of welfare. A single mom trying to better herself can’t even Pursue a degree to better her life
So the way things were aligned @TishJames was having a press conference about @SuccessCharters abusing special needs kids and @SUNY the authorizor of these schools was doing nothing. This is how I met @leoniehaimson
So what ends up happening is my son returns to school on the same day as this press conference. The school no longer suspends him and my best friend takes him on field study’s (aka field trips) cause they banned him. They did everything in their power to push my son out.
Illegal IEP meetings are being held and my son’s occupational therapy has been taken away. And he is being suspended even more. Things couldn’t be crazier and I found out I am pregnant. Eventually we leave in 2014 @TishJames office helps my son get into a real public school
But it’s not the end. My son suffers from #PTSD and he is struggling to reintegrate into a normal public school setting. He is traumatized and terrified of everything and everyone. This in 2014
By spring of 2015 @ksprowal hits me up and says @NewsHour is looking for former and current @SuccessCharters students and parents to interview would you be willing to do it. And me being naive I say sure. I’m not thinking anything of it.
They just wanted to talk about the environment of the school and not specifically my son. I knew this wasn’t an opportunity to talk about my son but a moment to shed light on the abuse of black kids with special needs.
So before this interview with @John_Merrow airs I’m still thinking it’s multiple families and teachers on this taping. But this should have been a red flag for me but it wasn’t. Eva wanted to talk specifically about my child which I found to be weird
So this thing airs in October and a snowball effect happens! She releases my son’s falsified records to the public and 💩 hits the fan. Parents come out left and right with accusations of abuse and #thegottogolist goes viral. I beg @jbelluck of @BelluckFox to mmake her stop
But he said his hands were tied and all he could do was talk to her. Nothing else. But nothing stopped. In 2017 she released a book. A memoir about her life. And in her life story she wrote about my then 12 year old son that left @SuccessCharters at 8years old
This past summer @usedgov found @MoskowitzEva guilty of violating #FERPA and you know what she did??? She appealed it. She also subpoenaed me last summer. I found out on the way to work.
So now listen after I got served a subpoena for helping another former @SuccessCharters parent out that also just happened to be black I got served. And if you thought that was all @MoskowitzEva had under her sleeve it isn’t. She appealed the @usedgov decision!
I am still waiting on a proper response back on that. Now why is this #BlackHistory ? It is Because despite all of this my son will be great. Despite all of this white people that abuse black children will be held accountable. I will speak up every time!
All these people such as @MoskowitzEva and Emily Kim the founder of @zetaschools and @jennleeper who is on the board @EducateCT after she abused tons of black kids in @SuccessCharters in nyc you don’t get to move on after you blow up children’s lives.

So this is current modern BLACK history. And one day someone will tell my sons story and what a tragedy it was that the people and power let it happen. There of hundreds of kids just like my son being abused currently @SuccessCharters every time I get the urge I will use my 🗣
