We're losing the rule of law, watching POTUS attack our fellow citizens, our freedoms are eroded, and we're sliding toward democracy's end. Meanwhile, a portion of "Christian" twitter is snarking on glitter ashes & wants to restrict Ash Wed practice.

Weeping.

Arguing over glitter ashes and gating ritual is pretty much the very last thing the world needs right now.

We need to stand in solidarity with those who bravely speak truth, who are willing to shine like stars in the night of this chaos; we need to take ashes out into the world, on the streets and welcome every last broken hearted person to wholeness and power.

We need to shine like we've never shined -- with love and compassion and commitment to justice and voice and true freedom.

We need to rend our hearts and beg for grace and goodness to break forth -- that our nation might be healed.

So bring on the freaking glitter.

Open every door of love.

Sparkle with the sort of joy that takes down the power of authoritarianism. Joy that inhabits all true justice and love.

Offer the ashes to all -- in token that death is the pathway to new life. That in losing, we find. That the last shall be first.

The voices that want to control, to extinguish the stars, that want gates and boundaries and borders - that's the problem. The dancing, loving, freeing, liberating God streaks through human history and blazes forth in the worst of times - and veils are rent and walls fall.

And you? Speak your truth. Follow the star. Refuse to be locked in and break down walls that would lock others out.

The glory of God is the human being fully alive.

That full aliveness is our way beyond this moment. Don't give your heart to political or religious voices who make you feel small, who take your joy and power.

Don't give those things away. Fullness. That's what we have.
