This #ValentinesDay, join us on a beautiful, special trip down memory lane.

(a thread, #RdgUK)
Sharon and Robert were both born, bred and raised in #RdgUK. They met over 45 years ago in Robert’s uncle’s launderette, and were engaged in the Abbey ruins on 18th June, 1978.

They are together and still going strong 43 years later.
📸: Here's a beautiful photo of Sharon from their engagement day, 1978.
📸 ...and here are Robert and Sharon back in the Forbury Gardens today 💖!
We've had a lovely catch-up with Sharon and Robert and rejoiced in their memories of the Abbey from many happy years, like visiting in the summertime to watch the band performances, as the bell at St James Roman Catholic Church chimed noon in the background.
We were also privileged to have a lovely chat about the day itself, as well as their lives together ever since!
1️⃣/3️⃣🗣️: "What’s the secret of a long happy marriage?"

Robert: I put up with you and you put up with me.

Sharon: Yeah! … Yeahh!!! I think: listen to each other.

Robert: And do things together.

Sharon: An interest in each other’s interests!

(cont.)
Robert: You come with me to car shows.

Sharon: Yeah! And you help me unravel my knitting.

Both: Just enjoy each other’s company!

✨♥️😊
2️⃣/3️⃣🗣️: "What made you choose The Abbey?"

Robert: Consecrated ground just seemed the right place!

Sharon: We were just out for a walk. We used to come here a lot to the gardens, didn’t we?

Robert: Yes, we’d come to the Forbury for a stroll! 😊
3️⃣/3️⃣🗣️: "Had you planned it in advance – had you got a ring?"

Robert: No, the ring came in July. We actually went to High Wycombe to get the ring. I don’t know why we went there. We found out that the jeweller is still going!

(cont.)
Robert: ....and you’re going to get an IOU in your Valentine’s card!

Sharon: Yes, and we’re going out there to get another ring!

Robert: Are we? Oh?

Sharon: Yes, some time!

😍💟
Thanks so much to Sharon and Robert for joining us and sharing this special story ♥️♥️♥️!

And from all of us at Reading Abbey Quarter, a very #HappyValentinesDay to you all!
