According to three people familiar with what took place, Katja Bullock and Johnny Sapp of the presidential personnel office were told they’re going to be let go. For now, McEntee is relying heavily on Burley, the deputy, as he takes over the office.
The question of whether McEntee would take over was a source of consternation for some aides, including Mulvaney, per people briefed. McEntee is the aide who Trump tried to put in charge of interim projects during the transition. He will report to Trump.
PPO has always been under scrutiny. But some of those who wanted a change have questioned the president putting a young loyalist who had a clearance issue in charge of such a sensitive office.
Others have supported it and insisted it will be fine because of the deputy and other staff remaining. It remains to be seen what other personnel changes there will be.
Those who are being let go are being described as “transitioning” to other agencies.
Among the complaints about the office. as run was that people weren't getting calls returned, per several admin officials, and a plan to make a change had been in works for last few weeks.
