As a native Oregonian - this is MESSED UP! Dismantling the Mount Hood rescue teams to allegedly grasp more control under the @ClackCoSheriff? Utter madness.

"Sheriff plans to dismantle Mount Hood search-and-rescue tradition"
oregonlive.com/clackamascount…
"'That requires years of culture and working together under difficult conditions.' Last year, he said his unit held 72 field and classroom trainings on topics including avalanche safety, crevasse rescues, high-altitude snow travel, patient care and technical rope and rigging."
"Two-thirds of the group’s volunteers are medical professionals or are certified wilderness first responders."
WHY and to whose benefit would they shut out those doing the work? NO! This is not good "law enforcement" management of community resources. It's an awful tragedy in the making that will dismantle mature, productive and trusted public safety organizations and cost human lives!
The @ClackCoSheriff can't be trusted to act in the interest of the public, and they're attempting to dismantle volunteer and community organizations with decades of success and investment in saving lives. This is a idiotic power trip that undermines our public health and safety.
@ClackCoSheriff For decades, Mount Hood search and rescue volunteers have saved lives 24/7/365, with life-saving support at no public cost beyond nonprofit orgs - they're community heroes and servants of international acclaim. Shut down a premier search and rescue team for a sheriff's ego? No!
