It would be naive to pretend that money is irrelevant when you're job hunting. Talking about earnings can be really uncomfortable, but it's part and parcel of the interview process.

What is your salary expectation?

A thread
Here is what I always advise: Do your calculation and have a base figure in your mind. What will it cost to transport yourself from your home to your place of work? What will it cost you to feed for a month and give some allowance for savings? That way you at least have a base
figure. This will guide you in your negotiation.

Also, make your findings on what is obtainable for your role in the industry. Reach out to people via LinkedIn, check reviews online. Consider the size of the company too. All the best in your negotiations
Your interviewers will want to know how much you'll accept. This is all part of the salary negotiation process.

Unfortunately, it can put you in a tight corner, as it's likely they'll look to offer you something close to your last position – even if you were underpaid.
There's also the risk they'll back off if they think they can't afford you, not knowing that you're willing to take a pay cut for the right role (if that's the case).
