Our team yesterday visited Gendikhatta in Uttarakhand to speak to the community leaders of van gujjars. They're a nomadic community with their idea of home being threatened by successive governments. We spoke at length about how to get their documents in order.
Upon discussion we have realised that they're amongst the most vulnerable communities with lack of basic documentations as the only document they were earlier given were forest permits which only mentions the head of family. Even these permits are not being issued anymore.
Our team held a lengthy discussion with these leaders and we came back with an assurance that these leaders will speak to their community and create awareness about NRC+NPR. We have promised them all support in pro bono manner.
Yesterday's visit was a trust building exercise.
