Last weeks rally was a great show of support for the #LGBT community & proof that religion doesn’t have to be about looking down on queer people.
Many people have said to me “Of course there’s homophobia in the Catholic Church, there’s no point in protesting it.” But....

I refuse to let that continue. Religious institutions are run by people & people have the power to change. There is no reason that homophobia should be perpetuated in religious institutions. There is no reason that “being religious” & “being homophobic” should be interchangeable.
It’s time that we put pressure on religious institutions to CHANGE their outdated, discriminatory ways.

I have taken many classes doing in depth analysis of Christian teachings and the Bible and fun fact — condemning gay people was never a part of Jesus’s teachings and it is NOT a crucial or important part of the Old Testament.

Eating Shrimp and wearing mixed fabrics are also not allowed in the Bible — but you don’t see people discriminating against those who eat shrimp or wear mixed fabrics....so it’s almost as if religion is being used as a cheap excuse to beat down on marginalized people 😒.
I’m sick of people cherry picking what they want out of a Bible full of so many teachings, and missing the main point of what religion is supposed to be about — Love.

And to those in religious institutions who say “well, we’ll tolerate you gay people from a distance as long as you don’t get married, act on your love, or live your lives.” No.
I refuse to just be “tolerated.” We need total open-armed acceptance & full 100% equality.
