Without a doubt #ItsMyDam
But this situation just frustrates me. We all saw this problem from a mile away, we didn't understand why the US was allowed to be involved in this. And no one in government was willing to tell us why. Why is our patriotism always taken for granted? 1/8
Our govts have never been transparent about the deals & fights they get into,we're not worthy enough to be transparent with or give input but we're good enough to die when those deals fall apart. Up to this day does the public really know why Meles & Isaias fell through? No.
2/8
They had deals only they knew about, then our people died for their country when it didn't work out. Ethiopian citizens gave their hard earned money for this dam without question because it was sold as a patriotic call but there are no explanations when accusations of misuse 3/8
of funds arise just finger pointing. No discussions with the public when they involve the U.S. in something it has NO business involving in. But one thing those in power can and have always relied on is Ethiopian patriotism, something they can fall back on when they mess up 4/8
and it shouldn't be that way, patriotism shouldn't be abused, on the contrary, those in power should see it as a heavy burden of responsibility they are entrusted with. This tweet is not just about the dam, it's bigger than that, it's about the lack of value consecutive govts 5/8
have shown for the patriotic people of this country. The govts want the money and lives of the people for projects and wars but have no interest otherwise in the value, integrity and dignity of the people.
This cycle has to stop with this administration, tell the people 6/8
what deals are being made with Eritrea, UAE, Saudi etc. Tell the ppl why you involved the U.S. in the first place, tell them how much you've already agreed to. It is not enough to expect patriotism when things aren't going according to your plans, our patriotism 7/8
will be there whether you are around or not, but what our patriotism shouldn't be is your Plan B.

And to the United States and Egypt do a little research on what we're celebrating tomorrow. We haven't been pushed around before and we have no plans to start 124 years later. 8/8
