This suggests that just 386 tests were carried out yesterday (13525 was the status report yesterday) and that seems low given that I think 1775 were carried out the day before.

That seems low but training & quality assurance and retests may be quite intensive at this stage
For instance the way the swab is taken matters as better results are achievable from nasopharyngeal swans than sputum samples.

It would be good practise to be quality assuring v early on that the swabs are from the sites needed.

Similarly the testing process cannot be rushed in the lab.

It is much better to spot training issues early and likely misses and retest and check all early in than after a month of tests.

One step back & correct is better than 30 steps back and correct
Labs maybe under pressure due to capacity issues. This will be a lot of extra work. It takes time to recruit and train people

However @CMO_England it would be helpful if there could be not only a daily notification, but also a table of the number of tests per day historically
