On this day approximately 163 years ago which was not that long ago one of the most important decisions in American Anglo Jurisprudence was decided. Considered an intellect and well respected like many white men who would come after him,
Men with a rich and deep history of dehumanization of Black people and martyred. Taney would author the majority decision in the Dred Scott case. He would say in his opinion: “ Blacks has no rights that a White man was bound to respect;
and that the negro might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery for his benefit. He was bought and sold and treated as an ordinary article of merchandise and traffic, whenever profit could be made by it”.
He further surmised that all men are equal” was not intended for those of African heritage. These were dastardly men that if our ancestors had the means and opportunity they should of killed at every chance possible.
These men set the parameters for American society for centuries to come that still resonates today. It set the standard for this social caste system that is based on race and insuring that Black people are alienated politically, academically, legally, socially, and economically.
Every single institution in this society is affected and it explains everything and why Black radical intellectual thought is necessary and should be taught in every single impoverished neighborhood in America.
The words in that decision explain everything from voter suppression to mass incarceration to the entertainment industry to the education system to gentrification to redlining etc
every major law and policy federally and locally regarding the conditions and environment that Black people are in today. The words of that decision would illuminate just how sinister and diabolical the american legal system and American society is.
It also explains why Black people should never look to be accepted or integrated, simple answer is that its a waste of time. Scholars will now say it was one of the worst legal decisions ever, I say it was one of the most honest and transparent decisions that explains it all.
This decision should be taught to every Black child in this country not by the school system but by the family and community.
