... COVID-19 is not influenza, it's not SARS. Fortunately, containment seems to be working. As time passes then virologists in the field will learn more about this virus. Give the WHO time, listen to the WHO.
X : Containment is not working, it's still spreading.
Me : Containment is working, it's not spreading as fast. They are a dealing with an outbreak in the wild, it's not like containment in a lab.

I do love the comments on this thread. It's as if people haven't realised what "delay" means. We're not containing anymore, this is "managed" progression of the virus through the majority of the population. Cattle immunity or Herd or whatever makes you feel comfortable ->
I do find there is an upside. As bizarre as it seems and as much as I disagree with the approach, at least we now have an approach rather than uncertainty. I will (as with most of the UK) contract COVID-19, I will roll the dice and may the odds be forever in your favour.
But now, we can just move on. The advice from Government takes a different form. This is not about stopping, it's about managing. It makes more sense ... well ... maybe sense is the wrong word but at least it has clarity.

Whisper softly (so they don't hear you) but "DevOps is the new legacy".
Serverless is in the what I like to call "getting shit done" phase, just like IaaS between 2008 - 2011.

Yes, we can hear all the noise, all the marketing, all the pomp of how (past) virtual data centres or (today) container equivalent will be the future.

... I'd rather be like China and get this thing under control. So, meetings and events go online - what's the big deal? It also means less of a carbon footprint. That's another plus.

Me : Hmmm ... you'll be putting your financial interests ahead of public safety. If that's not a criminal offence it needs to become one rapidly.
