Since it appears a lot of newbies might start telecommuting soon, here's a quick thread on some best practices from someone who's done it (relatively) successfully for a decade: /1
1) Dedicate a space, ideally with a door, for WORK: if you don't have a home office or extra BR, set up a table/desk w a good chair & ample light *as far away from bed/couch/etc as possible* (more on this in a sec). /2
2) Treat every day like a normal workday (absent your horrible commute): get up/workout/etc at the usual times; shower & dress for the day (no PJs); eat breakfast/lunch away from your "office"; keep regular business hours; etc etc. This is WORK & routine is key. /3
3) Because this is WORK, you'll go crazy (really) if you don't a) create real boundaries - physical, mental, schedule, etc - bt work time & home time; & b) get out of the house & talk to other humans. Take a walk, go buy black market hand sanitizer, whatever. DO IT. /4
(Yes, I understand part of this is to avoid humans, but I'm not suggesting you go to a rave; just don't stay home 24-7. It will seriously mess you up. Seriously.)

So that's basically it. Telecommuting is awesome, but it takes discipline. And it ain't vacation. Good luck! /x
