Trump doesn't deserve all the blame if #CoronavirusOutbreak gets out of control. The GOP does, (including Trump).

The GOP economic system - one that forces millions of Americans to live paycheck to paycheck with awful health coverage - is setting us up for disaster.

I'm lucky enough to be able to telecommute if it comes to that. That's a huge privilege that the bulk of Americans don't enjoy.

If you bring home your paycheck as a laborer on a construction site, as waitstaff or by cleaning hotel rooms, you can't just not go to work.

So people are going to keep going to work, even if the CDC urges them to stay home. They have to.

And since they have extremely limited paid leave, they can't just take PTO if they have a "bad feeling" about going to work. They'll wait until they're clearly sick.

And since they have exceptionally high deductibles (if they even have health coverage at all), they will avoid going to the doctor as long as possible if they become symptomatic, exacerbating the spread.

If we had real, strong paid leave policies, family-sustaining wages and universal healthcare, the United States would not be sitting so precariously on the precipice as this pandemic takes shape.

The system we have now sets us up very poorly for curbing the spread of #COVIDー19.
Also: The fact that the GOP does not really believe in government or governing is potently unhelpful during an outbreak.

Trump has been dismantling administrative agencies & ignoring the experts who have historically been there to prepare for and respond to things like this.
