Trying to make sense of the coronavirus is getting increasingly difficult. The mainstream media destroyed our communal sense making so we are left fending for ourselves. Now clickbait has infected many of the online people who made some sense of last few years.
Couple this with an election year (“Trump is mishandling it” from the same people who got everything else wrong) and identity politics (“calling it Wuhan Virus is racist!”) is driving us towards a place that strikes me as more dangerous than the virus itself.
The incentive structure is out of whack. Political gains, clicks and eyeballs are hyping madness while most decent people try to go about living their lives. We stocked up on emergency supplies this weekend more bc of panic than virus. Will do my best not to add fuel to the fire.
And to add one funny note. We went to Home Depot for a few things, including some vegetables to plant. There was a woman there who looked like a Beverly Hills Housewife freaking out bc she wanted stuff "for Corona" and the guy told her it takes years to grow an avocado tree...
Oh, and actually remove some of the people and institutions that get everything wrong from your information diet. Net Neutrality is the end of the Internet! Russia collusion! Soliemani killing is WWIII! The list goes on...
