NC's state lab has the ability to test 700 people. Supplies for another 900 tests are on back order. 67 tests have been completed and 21 are pending. Biggest issue is the lack of supplies to extract genetic material used to figure out whether someone has COVID-19 1/ @wsoctv 
The State Lab isn't the only place testing. LabCorp, based in Burlington NC, has the ability to perform thousands of tests a day. Tryon Medical Partners has been sending its tests to LabCorp. Typically there is a 3 day turnaround 2/
If someone is being tested for COVID-19, Dr. Ryan Shelton of Tryon Medical Partners tells me they can expect the full team doing the testing to be in full gear. Nasopharyngeal or oralpharyngeal swabs are used. The nose swabs produce more accurate testing, per Dr. Shelton 3/
A sniffle and an ear ache isn't going to cut it. Before giving a test, Dr. Shelton says they are going to size up the person-- ask what are their symptoms, what are their risk factors and have they travel. 4/
