#DANGLDRStories

"Hi Ife. I saw your post about long distance relationship and would like to share my Parent's story. Its a sad one, didn't have a happy ending but it's blissful.

Let me give you a brief background of my parent's personality. My mum is a brave, outspoken
and hard working woman. My dad is a peaceful, very generous and caring man.

We weren't rich but we were damn comfortable. But as they say life happens. In Ss2 third term, my dad's company folded up making him jobless and my mum too lost her job. We were back to square 1. My
dad was 58years then. Since he's not the hard working type, he kinda laid back, didn't go out to hustle and just decided to spend his savings.

As a born hustler that my mom is, she quickly saw that this money will finish on day, so what next?
(Couples should learn how to cover up for each other's weakness).

At age 46, she decided to travel abroad to go hustle. Of course some women will complain about the cold and that age isn't on their side in terms of getting a job. But trust my strong momma, she's very optimistic
She decided to go and my ever supportive dad agree.

I have 3 siblings. 3 of us just finished SS3 when it happened. Our last born was just about 10 years. People were against her leaving her kids and husband to travel. That who will train us esp the ladies. But my dad kept
sayings she should go.

He isn't the typical African man. His ego wasn't bruised that it's his wife holding down the family.

And then 2007, she traveled. I remember the smiles on our face with the hope that things will be better for the family.
But thing didn't go well, my mom didn't get a job immediately, at a point her visa got expired and was scared that if she didn't get an employer to help renew it, she will be deported. And still, we didn't have money.

My dad will go beg people for money and they will
stylishly insult him that his wife has been in abroad and nothing to show for it.

Countless times, I'd see my dad going from one church program to another just to pray for my mum. He talks about her like gold. One day I caught him praying with a tears filled eyes that God
should make my mum's way prosperous.

In my mind, isn't this man supposed to feel sad or even distrust her? . But all I could see on his face was pure joy. He loved her deeply. He couldn't wait for her to start earning money, so we the children could have a good life.
2011, God remembered us. My mom got a job. She quickly applied in 2012 for my dad to come meet her. We were all happy that finally they will reunite. Cos dad has really tried. Over 5 years of them being separated.

On June 14, 2012, me & my siblings finished our Nysc,
that same day my dad got his visa approved and strangely, the second day he got sick. Doctor diagnosed him of Kidney failure, stroke etc. 😥(Hmmn. Memories)

Our joy was short lived. He was in the hospital for 6months. My mum came down to Nigeria(1st time since she left in 2007)
I couldn't hold the tears when she went to my dad's bed side. She weeped and he too was crying. He just kept saying' Please take care of our kids, I trust you to do that'
I remembered the last day they both saw when she was leaving the airport, how happy they felt, that one day we will all reunite in joy.

To cut the story short, My dad died 3 weeks after my mum came to nigeria. They didn't even have the chance to gist or even spend the
money she hustled for.

People kept accusing her that he died bcos she left him in Nigeria. Nobody considered the fact that she's over 50 years hustling in a foreign land, doing the job the husband is meant to do? Do they know how lonely she felt for over 5 years without
her kids and husband? And to think that fellow women were the one doing the side talks. Smh.

8 years later, she has taken all of us to Abroad. We now have money. But we don't have our Dad😥. I wish life was fair. I wish he was alive to enjoy all the moment with us.
Some may ask, was it fair that she had to leave? My answer is Yes. She went to give her family a better life and I'm sure my dad will be happy with her in Heaven. God bless you Mom.

And dad, I knew you didn't want to leave us but I know God had a reason for it.
Mum is still holding it down for you. You married a gem. I wish to marry a man like you. A very understanding and loving man.

Sorry I know it's long. I just wanted people to understand that at times, life happens and even married couples can have a long distance
relationship without planning for it.

Thank you for reading. I feel light weighed pouring out my heart too you"
