One can already see outline of the effect of the coronavirus exponentially increasing the red-pilling of the general population in re corrupt/failed institutions, experts/pundits/authorities being wrong and/or incompetent, and normalizing populist policy. Here's a partial list:
* Education: if we can git educated online for credit while at home, why go back to school and have to pay room and board? What, exactly, are we paying for? The worth of educational institutions will be undermined, giving the trend in that direction momentum.
* Bullshit jobs: if you can do job by working a few hrs a day at home, why do you have normally have to come into the office every day? Working at home recaptures independence in the midst of identured bullshititude. "Let me stay w/family if I till my Lord's digital fields."
* Streamlining.Even when it comes to non-bullshit jobs, normalizing working from home reorients life around what really matters, both in one's family life & in one's work life. Forces one to have to be more intentional about both. Widespread realizations and wake up calls await.
* What can be done remotely, will be. Trend will accelerate. People know deep down that much that we do now does not require office/travel, but both of these make us feel important & we think we need to do both to display status. But do people really need or even want 'em? No.
* Relationships. As proof of concept for less status-travel & in-office work grows, you'll see focus on family & close friendships increase. Have to navigate family at home. Social distancing cuts down the friend list you actually contact. So have to be intentional about it all.
* Trade and economics: w/o a single national argument "winning" a debate, it becomes clear to millions of Americans that globalism/outsourcing is a major problem. Despite decades of rhetoric, supply chains need to be here & would provide us w/security as well as jobs. Etc., etc.
* Inevitability of globalization crushed: millions will realize that we really do have a political choice when it comes to political borders and boundaries - we can build walls, and we need them. That globalization was a choice, and also who was benefiting, becomes clearer.
* China as threat: it's not only that we begin to realize how much trade/globalization is a choice w/major negative side effects, but that it opens us up to our enemies & empowers them. Virus is living, harmful symbol for China and trade w/China on many levels in myriad ways.
* Millions of normie establishment types on both sides of aisle will realize in deeper way that this was an institutional failure - that our healthcare system and permanent federal administrative state is intrinsically dysfunctional, no matter who's in charge.
* Not just corruption of healthcare, or feds, that's about to be revealed: state & local authorities, particularly in deeper blue state areas, will end up flailing in coming weeks. Intrinsic dysfunction of SF/LA/CA, etc., will be made manifest in visceral, heartfelt ways.
* "What if it was worse?" Full red pill for millions of Americans will be swallowed when seriously asking this question. The answer will be: "We'd be totally screwed." Will be clear that experts/pundits and their institutions couldn't save you even if they so tried and desired.
* Similarly, the system won't completely break down, but we will get a sneak peak of the possibility, and be able to discern what it might look like. And start thinking harder about that. This will have deep political effects in November elections.
* What we are seeing is not just fear, I think, but a desire to quarantine. Not because of laziness (some of that, maybe) but b/c of desire for self-mastery. To return home. To tighten up. To do what's essential & no more. To build walls like muscles to protect what matters.
* If the institutions and experts are incompetent and corrupt, which they are, as more good and competent people realize this they will form their own tight groups and seek safety in relationships formed around higher purposes. Less time in soft hedonism.
* More good and competent people will see the real danger we are in, and associate accordingly. These groupings will become the new institutions and form the new classes of truer elites that we desperately need.
* All of the above is merely to say that what is happening will increase or accelerate trends that are already well underway. There are plenty of obstacles standing against these trends, and outright opposition. But one can see outlines of the directional pull that is increasing.
