The coronavirus math that has experts so worried: ventilators, hospital beds

1. Hopkins estimated the U.S. has a total of 160,000 ventilators available (an additional 8,900 in the national stockpile)

2. If we were struck with a severe pandemic like the 1918 Spanish flu, we would need more than 740,000 ventilators
3. The U.S. has an estimated 924,100 hospital beds + 46,800 to 64,000 ICU beds.

4. A moderate pandemic would mean 1 million needing hospitalization and 200,000 needing intensive care.

5. A severe pandemic: 9.6 mln hospitalizations & 2.9 million needing intensive care.
