Spent some time planning for our Allied Health Professions response at our hospital this last week for Covid-19. whilst there is still more to be done I thought I would share what I have done, it may help other AHP leads who are also doing this at the moment
Reviewed business continuity plans for the area I am accountable for within the context of Covid-19. There should be simple and clear processes that anyone can follow to help manage and escalate issues.
Looked at how we continue to provide our Business as usual services through the use of technology. @awgilbert11 has shown tremendous leadership and has gone above and beyond. Anthony demonstrates the importance of investing in research....you get the benefit of proper expertise.
Undergone a high level skills review of the different professions and teams so that we can optimise our people depending on the different scenarios we find ourselves in during the next few weeks/months. This is a key step in enabling the rapid redeployment of staff when needed.
Begun to review learning and development needs of our people so that we can support them to deliver high quality safe care. Next need to put in place learning opportunities for our teams.
Discussed and understood likely responses from other teams in the hospital to ensure AHPs contribute optimally. Still work to be done but we have a lot to offer but we need to be proactive and offer solutions. Even closer working moving forward will help this
Started to forecast likely impact of self isolation and staff sickness on our capacity and need to look at potential impact of childcare issues next. Putting in place contingency plans based on the above to meet the potential needs of patients whilst looking after our staff
Put in place simple action, issue, risk and decision logging to keep track of key information in real time. With so much happening & rapid change it is too easy to forget what has been done & why and what is supposed to be done next. Risk based approach also key to priortising
Attempted to improve communications in a number of ways. Still work to be done but key meetings with assigned responsibilities being put in place. now planning is being finalised it is vital we have excellent communication not only within AHPs but across the hospital
So far the communication and leadership from @Fish_pw @LucyDaviesCOO @DinnerLila @RoxanehZarnegar @BerryJBDHoO @lukesbighand and so many others has been fantastic...lucky to work with these guys.
on the to do list is to reach out to my colleagues in my STP. Theres much to be gained through collaboration during the next few months. Sharing ideas, discussing resource management, identifying subject matter experts to share knowledge skills & experience will be so beneficial
I would be interested to hear if there is anything going on in other AHP councils in response to Covid-19 that i could learn from @JeremyNugent10 @DrTherapies @tolanAHP @RachDalton1
AHPs have a vital role to play across the NHS in the next few months. There is an opportunity for us to step up to the plate and contribute strongly to the care that is delivered.
