I know it is just one of the many very serious challenges posed by this crisis, but I can't help but feel for all the young artists in NY who work in restaurants and bars while trying to make it who will now be without $ and hope. I started in that world and it will be crushing.
It is of course, the tip of the iceberg in cities like NY where service workers and others in the gig economy often have little in savings, no health insurance, no benefits and won't be helped by any of the discussed federal or state bailouts.
The human suffering will extend far beyond the victims of the disease. We mustn't forget these people. Help them however you can. And government officials, please, extend help beyond just the needs of big companies and unions to those who have no megaphone, no spokespeople.
