See a lot of cynicism & negativity here on the social media about the way Indian authorities are managing the #CoronavirusOutbreak. I can’t claim to know what’s happening all over the country, but here’s something I have experienced personally.
I flew back to India from the US on the 6th & apparently, the first confirmed case in Nagpur landed here on the same day. When we landed, our body temperatures were checked & we were made to fill forms with a lot of details at the Nagpur airport before we could head home.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation has created a whatsapp group for passengers who flew in from abroad recently & are updating us regularly on the precautions to be taken. Have been told to quarantine myself at home till the 20th as a precautionary measure, which I have done.
Every second day, a doctor from the Govt hospital here calls to check in me and ask if I am showing any symptoms. Yesterday, a team of doctors from the local govt hospital landed up at home to check if I am taking the right degree of precaution and if I am showing any symptoms.
10 mins after the doctors visited, I recieved a call from the collector's office to cross check if the doctors visited & briefed me on the precautions I need to take to ensure that me & my family are safe from the effects of #COVID2019.
To me, this is mighty impressive! With such diligence & sincerity on display from the authorities, we just need to cooperate & be disciplined as citizens to counter the #CoronavirusOutbreak. Be cautious & follow the instructions from credible sources & we’ll be fine! Stay strong!
