I didn’t tweet out John Ioannidis’ piece on STAT yesterday, because - while I respect his views on other issues - his take on #covid19 seemed to miss some pretty important points. Opinion pieces are by nature one-sided and it’s not a great format in a deadly outbreak.
Luckily @mlipsitch has taken the time to answer Ioannidis, so now you can read both pieces together if you want and get a more balanced view.
@mlipsitch Marc ends his piece with this sentence: "For the short term there is no choice but to use the time we are buying with social distancing to mobilize a massive political, economic, and societal effort to find new ways to cope with this virus."
@mlipsitch I think that is a pretty accurate assessment of where we are right now and it is a collective challenge to all of us living through this #covid19 pandemic.
@mlipsitch And here is the Ioannidis piece. FWIW, I agree that we are making decisions without reliable data. But it is the reality of living in #Covid19 Standard Time (CST) that we don't have the luxury to wait for reliable data.
