@YaleGeriatrics @SAEMEBM @LizGoldbergMD 1- Responding to @YaleGeriatrics with series of tweets. Since I am @WUSTL_EM @WUSTLmed & haven’t cared for my first #COVID19 patient yet, lessons learned from my brave #GeriEM colleague @replynickel in Switzerland.
@YaleGeriatrics @SAEMEBM @LizGoldbergMD @WUSTL_EM @WUSTLmed @replynickel 2 - From @replynickel
# 1 : containment won‘t last long (Corona Chameleons - in analogy to stroke: they are already among us and our patients)
@YaleGeriatrics @SAEMEBM @LizGoldbergMD @WUSTL_EM @WUSTLmed @replynickel 3 - From @replynickel
# 2 #GeriED beware #COVID19 mimics: They are sent to fever clinics with a suspicion of Corona and really have septic arthritis or PE or absolutely anything...
@YaleGeriatrics @SAEMEBM @LizGoldbergMD @WUSTL_EM @WUSTLmed @replynickel 4 - from @replynickel #COVID19 advice #3: the sick cases I have seen had low O2 sats - so measure Sats
@YaleGeriatrics @SAEMEBM @LizGoldbergMD @WUSTL_EM @WUSTLmed @replynickel 5 - from @replynickel #COVID19 advice #4: In terms of older adults: I believe the frail older adults are the most vulnerable. We’ve validated the Canadian Frailty Scale (<10 seconds to complete at Triage) - stand by for the manuscript!
@YaleGeriatrics @SAEMEBM @LizGoldbergMD @WUSTL_EM @WUSTLmed @replynickel 6 - Lastly @replynickel #COVID19 advice #5: Nursing homes / other care facilities/ smaller hospitals should have a strategy (masks, hand washing, advanced directives completed etc) how to deal with Corona (or they will send both patients AND staff (who infected patients).
