Just in time for lunch... Happy Friday, #twitterverse! One more lesson before school lets out for summer: James Beard-nominated chef Ronnie Killen (@ze1chef) from @killensbbq has the *most necessary* tips for the perfect brisket. Stay tuned… #Houston
TIP #1 from @ze1chef: “Source good product, don’t mess it up.” Simply, great barbecue begins with sourcing great cuts of meat. Worry less about marbling and instead seek out meat with a light pink hue, which means the cattle ate quality feed, which will yield a tastier result.
TIP #2 from @ze1chef: A thick fat cap will provide big flavor, but pros know to trim brisket a bit to create a streamlined, aerodynamic shape. This ensures that smoke will waft evenly over the meat and no parts become overly smoky. #BBQ

A #Trump-hating, Democrat/Socialist judge in #Houston, who describes himself as an "activist", didn't know the law, so he unwittingly resigned himself from his judgeship.

Hey #Texas, you better pay attention and DO NOT elect this guy to Texas Supreme Court!
Here is this judges website:
Here's some of his anti-Trump rhetoric. This coming from an "impartial" judge.

Massive petrochemical storage facility on fire east of #Houston

Residents of #DeerPark ordered to shelter-in-place.

But air moves and even gets into homes — carrying with it the dangerous toxins. The health and environmental costs are borne by us, not corporations.
This is spot on. And these petrochemical fires and the other related spills and pipeline leaks etc. rarely make the national news.

“Privatize the profits and socialize the costs.”

What that means is some get rich and others die. Yes. It’s that stark.

🏆In the astonishingly corrupt world of politics in Washington today, it is important to acknowledge people that do the right thing no matter the consequences. I think we should acknowledge the 58 members of the 115th Congress who did the right thing.

🥇These members of the 115th Congress didn’t think about the political ramifications, their reputations or the timing; they just voted honorably not to table the measure to impeach a prez who is clearly not abiding by the law or representing our country the way it deserves to be.
🏆Most of these members of the 115th Congress are still in Congress, but some are Governors or in new positions. One member, Louise Slaughter D-NY, sadly died in 2018. More on her later.

This notorious repost from a Pitt or Volunteers fan is amazing [thread]:
There's a change in the air. The Butch funk is gone. The Pruitt era begins. For better or worse, we have a new reason to be hopeful and believe that Tennessee will soon again be matching on-field results
with our blue blood traditions. Pruitt's defense dominated last night, and hes on the verge of securing a Top15 class in a transition year. Vols have a lot to be excited for in 2018, which we start off against the University of #WestVirginia.

1/ Reporters with our partners @texastribune, @neenareports and @ewaltersTX, have been digging into how Houston’s affordable housing crisis got worse after Hurricane Harvey.

Here’s what they dug up in this week’s episode ...…
2/ For years, studies have ID’d #Houston as one of the most racially segregated cities in the country.

Harvey might have made that worse, damaging 800,000 homes in the city of Houston alone. More than half those homes were rental units.
3/ @neenareports and @ewaltersTX spent a lot of time with Pamela Banks, a real estate agent in Houston who is trying to help low-income renters. She works with many clients that have Section 8 vouchers – part of a government program that helps people afford rent.

THREAD 1) If you’ve wondered, THIS is where the trash you see on the street ends up. It doesn’t just disappear. Rain washes it down stormwater drains, which typically feed in the bayou (#BuffaloBayou in this instance). Our waterways shouldn’t be trash heaps. #KHOU11 #HTownRush
2) Just a few feet from that waste puddle, filtered stormwater cascades over rocks to reach #BuffaloBayou. #KHOU11 #HTownRush
3) In the sandbar next to that stream, the stones tell part of #Houston’s history. You have Pleistocene-era sandstone, older oyster shell-concrete and the modern concrete mix, which uses gravel. #KHOU11 #HTownRush

So ... I have been planning something a very long time that I haven't shared here - it used to feel like a silly dream, but now it's my retirement plan. I'm buying land and building a home - with no loans. Lemme tell u-this scheme has taken some dedication, discipline, and magic.
I've "owned" 2 homes b4 in my life - I lost both during times that coincided w housing market problems and break ups w my children's fathers - they were both heart aches to lose. I can barely talk about it.
The first home that I bought was built for Frank Phillips of the u know big Phillips Oil Corp - it was built in the 20s and had a speakeasy built into the basement ... it was like a small castle, stunning w wood floors and amazing architectural features - huge corner lot

I was eight when I learned the word ‘shrapnel.’

Our teacher told us that someone had brought a gun to Thurston High School. And gone to the cafeteria. And started shooting. She looked extremely sad, but her teachers’ aid looked sadder.

Her son went to Thurston.
She was crying, and told us that she would have to leave to go to the hospital. “He’s going to be OK,” she told us through tears, “it was just shrapnel.” And then she left.
Shrapnel is when something explodes, I told my mom later. It's when a bullet breaks apart and some of it hits you.
