Ground report from my pulmonologist friend working at NY hospital ... #Covid. “These are truly unprecedented times. we are full disaster operations mode. We have seen a big surge of cases & the hospital is running out of beds & ventilators.
Our surge icu we specially opened on many floors are already full. The worst hasn’t even happened yet bc it’s projected to surge in 1 month but we are already rationing our supplies and masks and gloves. 😿
Estimated we are running out of all PPE in 2/3 weeks. 🙀
We have suspended all outpatient operations, cancelled all PTO, and made multiple staffing contingency plans assuming our work force is going to shrink due to quarantine and exposures (and sadly sickness). 😿 It feels like we are living in wartime right now.
It’s unprecedented and uncertain.
Testing kits still very short supply so can’t even tell who is infected and who isn’t. 🤦🏼‍♀️
Stress level anxiety and fear are rampant and We know It’s going to get worse so we are bracing.
