Thread: Singapore, Sunday. After trying to do everything only online, the fastest way to mitigate my rapidly degenerating iPhone battery situation, was to head on over to the Singtel shop at the mall.
There were no iPhone 11 Pro nor Max models available, because China production has been halted. So I decided to upgrade my dying iPhone6 S Plus to an iPhone 11 (basically a XR).
That, plus my service re-contract, was only half of the budget Ihat I expected for the 11 Pro purchase. Well, not a deal breaker in any way, because I can get 3D AR using a Theta device. Also paying less and getting more for telcom service...
Hubs was a bit chagrined that I needed to run out to the Mall on a Sunday (crowds, coronavirus risk, Churches shut but hey what are you doing ...). But my iPhone is basically the only way I can keep this international family connected.
So anyway, I did the deal, and then picked up a Kate Spade folder-style protection case (it was the only one at the Apple shop next to Singtel, and I was not going to run about looking). Am not one for designer labels, but hey...
Also added a screen protector. Guy at the Apple shop applied it to the new iPhone 11 for me. All set. Traipsed about the Mall looking for Staff at the supermarket - what - no one queuing with a 1 metre separation ?!
The mall was busy, people all mucking about with young kids and elderly, few masks on, no one keeping the 1 metre dstance from each other: not on escalators, not in cashier queues, not anywhere. Shoulder to shoulder, blah...
Anyway, did not dally, went straight home, and wiped off as much of the odds and ends we had from the mall. ... I should mention another Silly Goose Woman, this time at the Singtel Phone shop. She wanted to look at the phone the salesman was showing me...
Salesman told her to go look at the display sets over at the other corner, but she said they did not have the green one which I was being shown. She insisted on peering at mine and even poked it with her finger. Salesman and I were disgusted.
She went off after muttering that there were no more versions of this colour. When I got home, I wiped down the new iPhone, and everything in the box, with antiseptic wipes. Really annoyed with that Silly Goose Woman.
Was blown away by how to transfer my settings from my old phone to my new phone: completely over the air, using an animated image as identification and security. I am now waiting for the apps to be installed. Fuss-Free Upgrading.
I wore a face mask and gloves during my outing. Used a capacitative pen to use my old iPhone during discussions with the Salesman. Also used that pen to sign on the very grubby iPad for my virtual-digital contract.
So far so good. Life in a coronavirus city. It goes on.
