So I got this leggo from exchanging gifts with my girls.
We have dealt that the gift must be something that useful. And then... she gave me a leggo. Hahahahaha🤣🤣🤣

I kept teasing her that this is the first time I have ever received a gift that I need to assemble first by myself. Is that even a gift?. And I joked to her, saying perhaps I will finish it in December or some years later.

She gave me this gift in a box full of tape. Like you want to send it as a parcel through courier.. and we exchanged it in a restaurant along with my other girls, so how am I supposed to open that?.

Then I used a fork instead. A-freaking-fork
kkkkkkkk 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Born to the couple Gregorio Marquez & Maria Jurado, both educators, the Marquezes were a prominent family in Tayabas. She inherited from them a passion for learning, entering Tayabas High School (now Quezon National High School) at the young age of 9.

It’s 1963 again!

A split second can change everything, I’ve been teleported in time back to that sanguine dream; where the whole world came to a halt — my gaze wrapped around your gate and my heartbeats choreographed in a sublime rhythm —

#shortstory
and there you were — and there’s no rush to catch a train leaving the platform no. 1 — nor there are prying eyes and so many from the judgemental lot ...

It’s just us, nestled within the warmth of a night, by an unlit candle under the full moon — and your eyes beaming with hope
Right there under the peach tree, are also planted some dandelions and white Roses, and we are sitting on a marble bench — and all I can hear is a monologue in your heartbeats

“Eventually, we will grow old
and I don’t know will we be together
like happily ever after or never

1994, May the 2nd

Yes — for a moment, it felt it was 1964 again; from the train station to that ballroom — but this was 1994 — she made a brief pause — and then the earth resumed its usual spin.

She spoke for next 25 minutes; without making
an eye contact with me; and the rhythm of my heart kept skipping its beats; I’m entangled in a series of questions that are too existential — do I still exist for her?

does she remember me, at all?
does she even know; I know her?
does she remember that dance?
and so on so forth; on top of it her gaze masquerading as if I was a wall; one that was carved from the monuments of the Stonehenge...!!

But then, towards the end of her talk — she verbatim read her heart out;

“some three decades ago;
I got to know the meaning of life

1994, May the 2nd

Thirty years have passed, yes, thirty my dear stranger from my youth. And as fate played gods again, today our paths crossed again.

You were there draped in a beautiful Saree, an ensemble of royal blue and golden banarsi
kissing it’s corners; your hair have silver, your skin is still radiant and there’s the same beautiful smile lighting up the whole room — you are still as beautiful as you were — I thought; and my heart skipped — your turned and laughed amidst so many people at Kinnaird’s Amphi
Surrounded by admirers, as you are the guest of honour for some prize distribution — and I’m sitting in the audience, lost amongst the crowd; wondering will I get lucky today, as I did in 1960s?

How long you can keep someone wrapped in your heartbeats; perhaps for an eternity

I'm thunderstruck. I have been hit by lightning. Just from reading Corinne Manning's (@corinnemanning) new collection We Had No Rules. " 'So I'm not queer enough?' she asked, and I could feel it starting again. We would never stop doing this until one of us was gone."
Check this from the title story. One sister talking to the other about their biofamily: "You made it easy for them. They want you to feel so ashamed that you leave. There's this way they pretend there're no rules, and they subtly suffocate you." Corinne Manning
Hot damn this dialogue from "Ninety Days"

"I know the queer board will vote me out for that," he said.

"More likely the rest of the world will vote you in," I said.

Once I was at a wedding at one of my ma's relatives' place... I was around seven or eight...

All the women my ma's age were housewives, save this one cousin sister of hers who was working..

(Yeah, we Indians call them cousin brothers and cousin sisters... deal with it)

1/n
I didn't know her

Suddenly this beautiful beautiful woman stepped in..She was wearing a white saree with a narrow blue border and chunky turquoise jewellery and a blue bindi

I had never in my life seen someone this beautiful..her thick black curly hair was plaited loosely..
2/n
... she had the sweetest voice...

As she stepped in and came towards my ma, she told me this was her cousin and a mashi to me... shy as I felt of this glamourous woman, we soon started talking..and then she moved on to talk to other people at the wedding...

A short story:

As chair of @nbasblofficial, @OlumideAkpata moved to reform legal education in 🇳🇬 by setting up NBA-SBL clubs in 6 strategic universities nationwide. I was President of @LawsanNational at the time, and the SBL worked hand-in-gloves with us to drive these reforms..
Olu did great exploits, but I knew capacity-building was lifting men is in his DNA when he mentioned how he's more proud of the SBL Clubs of all his major achievements. Today, the clubs are impacting robust commercial law knowledge and bridging the gap btw academia and industry
Since 2018, I've had the privilege of attending all @nbasblofficial Conferences in Abuja and Lagos with a team of delagates from @LawsanNational and 5 students each from the clubs; 100% free and all expense paid in platinum, thanks to @OlumideAkpata

THE TRUTH COMING OUT OF THE WELL
The world famous painting, The Truth Coming Out of the Well, by Jean-Léon Gérôme, 1896.
According to a 19th century legend, the Truth and the Lie meet one day. The Lie says to the Truth: "It's a marvellous day today"! The Truth looks up to the skies and sighs, for the day was really beautiful. They spend a lot of time together, ultimately arriving beside a well.
The Lie tells the Truth: "The water is very nice, let's take a bath together!" The Truth, once again suspicious, tests the water and discovers that it indeed is very nice. They undress and start bathing.

The man shook his tin at me and said "Care to buy a poppy?"
I went in my pockets and said "Sorry, I've nothing to give."
He frowned at me and said "They died for your freedom, you know."
"What freedom is that?" I ask.

"Is it the freedom to choose what cheap, unhealthy food I shorten my lifespan with? Maybe the freedom to decide which companies I allow to bully me into debt and poverty?"

"I've got it" I say. "It's the freedom to decide which landlord will issue me an eviction notice. Maybe then I'll be truly free; free to decide which doorway to cry myself to sleep under."

I heard them bring her in, a cell down the corridor from mine.
Sarted the same way, noise of carriage wheels on cobbles, clanging of locks, creaking of doors chains dragging on stone, protests of the accused.
This time, raised voices drifted down the corridor. The watch commander's deep, booming tones drowned out the voices of the woman's captors.
"...the hell am I supposed to put her? She needs an apothecary, not a prison!"
"...yeah we do, for DRUNKS! Going to take more than a nights sleep to cure that! Look how much she's shivering!"
"...oh really? How much you going to give me of that? Nope, didn't think so!"
Rest of the discussion was quiet, a negotiation of sorts.

Kayode chased me out of our home.

Three years of marriage with two beautiful daughters to show for it, and he chased me.

Chased me like a thief that I was not, chased me like an unfaithful wife that I was not, he chased me..

Now barely two years after, he is here, on his knees, before my family and our kids, begging for me to take him back.

As I stared at him in his burgundy long sleeved kafan and polished black shoes, pleading on his knees before my father and
mother, with nothing but emptiness in my heart, the memories of the pain he put me through, the embarrassment, the heart break, the agony flowed back into my head, fresh as if it were yesterday..

"Wumni please forgive me,” he said, turning towards me, “Please forgive and forget..”

The halls had windows. I looked out the window each time I went up a level, and each time I gazed out, the view was changing. The outside world was becoming livelier, more vibrant, and cleaner.
The buildings weren’t so imposing and box-like anymore but came in different shapes, colors, and sizes. I felt like the top level was within reach.

I lost count of the number of levels I climbed but since the halls have gotten smaller as I went higher,
I finally entered a small room. It was about 30 square meters, carpeted, with wooden pillars decked with intricate carvings. There were a few people of varied ages, most of them quite mature. One group was playing charades.

#WhoPackedYourParachute

Air Commodore Vishal was a Jet Pilot. In a combat mission his fighter plane was destroyed by a missile. He however ejected himself and parachuted safely.
He won acclaims and appreciations from many.

After five years one day he was sitting with his wife in a restaurant. A man from another table came to him & said "You're Captain Vishal! You flew jet fighters. You were shot down!"

“How in the world did you know that?” asked Vishal
“I packed your parachute," the man smiled and replied.

Vishal gasped in surprise and gratitude and thought if parachute hadn't worked, I wouldn’t be here today. Vishal couldn't sleep that night, thinking about that man.
