It would be fair to say we haven't yet fixed our supermarket problem. Not joining in with the cry that everyone in the queue is selfish, similarly people going to parks etc...
We have a home delivery problem as well...
Noting that Southwark council will close parks.
Some backlash to Southwark Council's decision... not all homes are particularly healthy places for one reason or other. A little uneasy about denying people anywhere to go for what could be several months.

I find this story quite interesting - while big companies are proposing more complex solutions a team of academics came up with a simple ventilator prototype which could be quickly produced. Could presumably also be exported to other countries with same issue?
In general we have been hearing about national responses to finding the equipment we need, but in a pandemic dozens of countries need more of the same equipment, and treatments and vaccines will also be global. Almost like we need global cooperation...
Apparently already progress on ventilators in Wales.

Did it take a Prime Ministerial broadcast to demonstrate the UK government was really serious about coronavirus, and for the vast majority of people to fully follow instructions? Because online and from obviously limited outing today it seems that way.
Suspect a great deal of pressure from MPs, cross party, has been a major factor in government stepping up. Weaker party affiliations in a time of crisis. For this reason think important that Parliament does keep running in coming weeks.
UK politics rediscovers the importance of consensus in a crisis. And by popular demand did not want to be out of line with neighbouring countries, though that looked possible for a while.

Still a long way to go obviously...

Many years ago a few Russian visitors meant I had something like 20 bottles of finest vodka at home. I've always bought rice in 5 or 10 kg packs. I have dozens of unread books, and three months worth of CDs.

What was anybody else inadvertently stockpiling before this started?
Tempted to also ask, and what's the oldest dated tin or packet you've found at the back of a cupboard...

WORKING FROM HOME

I've been managing a distributed team for ~5 years now, so working well remotely is something we've evolved over years.

It is communication, communication, communication.
I have a one-on-one meeting with each of my reports once a week without fail unless one of us is out for the week.

In their calendar it's 30 mins, in mine it's 1hr. They're high priority for me - I don't miss them cause I'm busy, and they're rearranged if P1s happen.
It's extremely important *I* initiate these calls at the exact time the meeting is due to start without fail. Me being regular means the team are always ready too. I don't rely on them to message me to start them - reports never want to feel like they're bothering their manager

Going to attempt this 100-opinion thread on digital products. Already stressed about trying to hit 100.
1/ Mediocre products can and do succeed. most people don’t want the “best” of anything, just the best for them given their context. This is something most product people get wrong; they think there is a prototypical ideal for the product they are building.
2/ Design doesn’t really matter as much as we think it does - people want the value on the other end of your product not the nice UI. 100 Design, 0 value = failed product. 0 design, 100 value = successful product. This is a multiply-by-zero situation where value is the key factor
