Meetings are toxic. Doesn't matter if your work day is being chopped up into work moments in the office or virtually. Thinking that working remotely = meeting remotely is a grave misconception. Remote work thrives on deep work, which requires long stretches of uninterrupted time.
We wrote about meetings being toxic in REWORK back in 2010. All this is true of virtual meetings as well. In fact, if anything, virtual meetings are even worse. Slightly lower fidelity, definitely less humanity. The biggest level-up you can do when going remote is fewer meetings.
To that same effect: Running an all-day meeting with random participants and no agenda isn't the answer either. Group chat might feel like it's the more enlightened step over endless Zoom chats, but it's not. It's a stress factory. basecamp.com/guides/group-c…
