If you're an entrepreneur looking to build tools for #remote teams because you anticipate more teams will go remote due to #coronavirus concerns, here are some ideas/thoughts for you. 💡
First of all, being a remote team is a lifestyle choice. We aren't 👽’s from another planet. Our problems aren't necessarily that different from teams who work in an office.
Remote teams need to put more effort into being _great_ at communication, trust, team building, hiring, and organizational company things like HR, accounting, forecasting, and payroll.
I also think remote teams need to grow up a little bit faster and put more structure in place sooner than non-remote teams. Potentially an opportunity to serve earlier-stage teams with HR-related tools. 🤔
You can focus on helping teams like ours (@podia) with all of the things I mentioned above, but we don’t need specialized product management tools, design tools, wiki tools, or anything like that.
If you want to build one of those, go ahead, but slapping a “built for remote teams” label on the box isn’t going to get you anywhere.
It’s been great to see the tech community and investor community embrace remote teams as the future of work, because with major tech cities becoming too expensive to build teams in, it is.
Just remember that you don’t need to build for _remote_ teams. Build for _teams_. The“remote” part is secondary. If your product makes any team better at communication, collaboration, or operation, it’ll be embraced by remote teams, too.
I wish you the best and I’d be happy to answer any questions you have on Twitter and/or check out your product. ❤️
