2nd order effects of the lockdown and (scary) consequences emerging from it.

Complex systems - like the economy - break at their weakest link. The lockdown is exposing some of those weak links and the risks that the system is facing as a whole.

Reminds me of this wonderful poem by John Donne. An elegy to complex systems really, and pointing out the folly of trying to wall off one part of a complex system from another without thinking of 2nd order effects.

Bain India released its 2019 India VC Report, partnering w @indianvca.

The report authored by @asheth99 - the most powerful person in Indian VC who is not a VC or founder:-) - is worth a read.

Here is what I found interesting from the report.

Avg VC deal size - across all stages is $13m ($10b / 750 deals). It is is been rising steadily up since 2016, largely on the back of rich late stage valuation.

Look at Series C CAGR vs D+! India is becoming a unicorn-led market.

Interesting (not good) week for bootcamps / ISAs in US.

And I think a clear sign that things are tightening up for the bootcamp segment...not sure if we will see this soon in India soon.

(1) Galvanize which raised $130m in VC money gets sold for $165m
(2) @theinformation did a hit piece on everyone's beloved @LambdaSchool

Essentially growing pains. Struggles in translating coding success to other segments and scaling etc.

I think the key challenge w bootcamps is that you see product market fit at very early stages but there is no guarantee that the PMF will hold w scale.

You will place 100-200 students and maybe even 500 but 5,000? Not easy to hold quality as you scale.

@suchitasalwan The key insight is #2 - that the brand should help the consumer tell her story better on social media.

Instagram effectively is your distribution platform, and you need to give enough hooks to enable the consumer to share there.
@suchitasalwan Historically you signalled largely via luxury or cult brands.

Now these micro+social brands too confer the ability to signal and tell a story about yourself. I encouraged Suchita to call them story brands but perhaps micro+social is a better term:-)

I suspect this is by design.
In due time, DNC and RNC will be dissolved and replaced by a #PatriotParty.
She will be one of the leaders.

 She's never going to win the democratic primary, but many voters will see how the DNC and MSM have ganged up on her and will not vote for Hillary or Michelle. Some on the anti-war left might even vote Trump as an act of protest and reprisal.

 If she were to run as an independent. She would siphon votes from the Democrats, not from Trump. She would actually help him. Why would a republican vote for her instead of POTUS? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
