Next up it's @WayneTheMurray and his cat 😻 giving us some tools to pivot, or re-pivot, your communications strategy. #FundraisingEverywhere
First thing @WayneTheMurray did when #COVID19 kicked off was to talk to as many charities (100+) as possible. Immediate things that struck him included:

☑Confusing about the 'end' of the crisis
☑ Kneejerk, quick decisions
☑ Lockdown and hibernation

#FundraisingEverywhere
@WayneTheMurray has put together 11 points to focus us and give us momentum - short-term, medium-term and long-term.

Point 1: your current strategy is redundant. Say goodbye to "business as usual" folks, the landscape has shifted.

#FundraisingEverywhere
Point 2: work out what has changed. Start with your financials. build scenarios for your org going forward. Financial knowns are easier to deal with than the unknowns.

#FundraisingEverywhere
Point 3: Drop everything non-essential. Board reports can do one. Run the financial reports, internal comms and external comms - the most important assets you have.

Point 4: keep lines of communication open. With colleagues. With other charities. Everyone is facing similar issues. Talk, share, communicate!

@WayneTheMurray #FundraisingEverywhere
Point 5: devolve some of your decision making. Especially if you're a senior leader. We don't have the luxury of convoluted sign-off processes. Action first, decisions later. Talk to orgs who are used to working in disaster situations.

@WayneTheMurray #FundraisingEverywhere
Point 6: redeploy staff. humans are awesome and surprising. people have skills you never knew they had. scrap your hierarchy, you have a community of committed people!

@WayneTheMurray #FundraisingEverywhere
Point 7: Short term, focus on email and social. Keep connected to those external audiences who are also stuck in their houses...

@WayneTheMurray #FundraisingEverywhere
Don't launch appeals that are plugged on an income deficit. People care about the impact on your services and beneficiaries. FOCUS your storytelling around that, and not you as an org. Connect to humanity, it's not just a financial case

@WayneTheMurray #FundraisingEverywhere
Point 8: Medium-term needs to be offline and phone and foundational stuff. Keep the focus on humanity too. Don't let bad habits slip back! ❌stop sounding institutional. No more 'us' and 'them' storytelling.

@WayneTheMurray #FundraisingEverywhere
Point 9: things aren't gonna be the same again. Longer-term it's about robust thinking in terms of how we structure ourselves, organise, communicate and share. There's gonna be BIG discussions about how and where we work too.

@WayneTheMurray #FundraisingEverywhere
Point 10: we have to trust and support everyone. Hour by hour our emotions are fluctuating. It's new for ALL OF US. There's no precedent or solution for this. Connect with everyone, be flexible and look after each other.

@WayneTheMurray #FundraisingEverywhere
Point 11: Philanthropy will bounce back. Humans are amazing. History tells us that after bad times, great things happen. Going forward, public support with groundswell. Be ready for that moment.

Secret point 12... NO GIN BEFORE 6PM!

Thanks so much @WayneTheMurray for such a great session.
