- Merseyside Police investigating City Council
- Lancashire Police - #OperationSheridan
- Serious Fraud Office, North West Serious Crimes Unit & GMP investigating property scams
- Council finances not being signed off by an auditor for the last 5 years
Something smells fishy🐟👀
Now, I realise it sounds bonkers to link TV shows about the Italian Mafia and how they infiltrate local councils and municipalities - I mean, that wouldn't happen in Lancashire or Merseyside... would it!?
Old Frank McGrath mentioned above...he's been involved in some colourful schemes that might have some parallels to todays investigations in Liverpool and beyond.
Now, property has always been a favourite to launder large amounts of money through - Especially for people that attained that money through illegal means (drugs/trafficking of all kinds etc)
It's double bubble if you can find a front man & an ally on the council planning team💸
To add a sporting angle to this - The bad lads from Liverpool enjoy strong relationships with their Irish cousins. We've all read about the #Kinahans & #MTK
Drugs imported - South America - Middle East/Asia - Spain - Holland - UK 💸 Laundered in Dubai
Anyway...like I say, my worldview might be a bit skewed by some of the reading and watching I've done during Lockdown - But it does kind of fit with the headlines, so...who knows?!
For some good reading on this stuff, I'd suggest;
- Peter Kilfoyle for Liverpool @KilfoyleonMside
- Nicola Tallent for #Kinahan@nicolatallantsw
- Peter Walsh & Graham Johnson for Drug Wars
- Wensley Clarkson for gangster profiles @wensleyclarkson
- Michael Gillard for fearless investigative journalism @mr_gillard
- Heidi Blake 'From Russia With Blood' @HeidilBlake
- Tony Thompson @tonythompsonstl Crime writing
- Roberto Saviano @robertosaviano The doyen of international crime writing
- Misha Glenny 'McMafia' (and more - Really smart global perspective) @MishaGlenny
- Peter Frankopan @peterfrankopan The New Silk Roads = Global Perspective
These white collar schemes are quite sophisticated to be fair. They have legal sounding businesses, marketing, PR & in some cases even get FCA approval!!
Little bit like #BinaryOptions scams tho, they are part of the machine
I've seen some of your tweets on Liverpool and the whiff of corruption recently - Thought you might be interested in a little thread I've just put together.
Just linking some stories I've seen over the years.
Politics ➡️ Business ➡️ Crime... oiled machine @tina_bartlett@BTLF1
@theesk This is the quick thread I did on our home city...
Despite massive numbers in revenues💰💱 Football clubs are so bloated, the top guys feel they need more!
For long term planning, they need control of the rules of competition too.
The huge swathes of capital hoarded by the investment banks/rich are willing to fund this new comp
The #PremierLeague will end up a place for the 'Elite' teams in the new #EuropeanSuperLeague to play their so called reserve squads - Because the rewards on offer merit that.
That said, with the huge revenues they will dominate, those reserve squads will still be the best ⚽️🤯💁
3/ In the film, #Immobiliare is a real estate vehicle owned by the Vatican & #DonCorleone wants to buy-in with his ill gotten gains & create a European conglomerate that will elevate the family for generations to come
Now for the obvious (& not so obvious) parallels with reality
The two 'Shadow Brokers' who get fleeting mentions over the last 15 years as the cast of foreign ownership in English football has become increasingly... 'cosmopolitan' are;
*Chris Samuelson* & *Andrew Obolensky*
Who are they?
What do they do??
Why should we care???
3/
Well, they've appeared in a few books I've read over the years, so I did some searches to try and understand more & connect the dots.
