1. I think it was 1982 when I sold the @NFL on staying in Honolulu for the #ProBowl. I had lunch with the three hall of fame inductees who made up the committee tasked with the decision. I pitched that they can take their families anywhere on the mainland but Waikiki was special.
2. Plus unspoken was the fact that for the most part, Hawaii is free from the kind of endemic racism that was common in 1982. Mixed ethnicity couples were common in Hawaii. Not so much on the Mainland back then. For single players it was a wonderland.

4. sizeable family bar tabs. I recall we had lunch in an alfresco part of a restaurant I had previously managed before going into the marketing department. The staff were customarily salty and humorously disrespectful, addressing me as "Haole Boy" rather than Mr. Hogan or Tim. 😎
