Electricity grid operators are becoming TRANSPORTATION companies, via #electricvehicle charging infrastructure and supplying electrons as 'fuel' to those #EVs.
And transportation companies—especially automakers—are becoming ENERGY companies. EVs are the natural starting point, but holistic energy management quickly comes into play... with residential and commercial energy storage, on-site solar PV generation, etc.
VW is targeting a 50% reduction in #battery costs. They're also expanding the EU charging station network 5x with 18k new fast-charging points. And perhaps most notably, "energy management" is now a new business sector for the company.
En route, VW is also planning six new battery 'gigafactories' with a total annual production capacity of 240 GWh.
To put that number into perspective, @Tesla's famous Gigafactory 1 in Nevada, USA, reached 20 GWh in 2018 and last year was up to 35 GWh. fool.com/investing/2020…
Although EasyBat is designed for #Decentralized#selfsovereign lifecycle management of batteries, its architecture is applicable to any energy asset anywhere. Such a 'DER Passport' is becoming the anchor of the future energy system. energyweb.org/technology/app…
Stay tuned for more on this topic from the #EnergyWeb ecosystem. In the meantime, have a great weekend! #WeAreTheEnergyWeb

EasyBat is a #blockchain-based solution for identifying and tracking batteries throughout their lifecycle, from production, to ownership and operation, to second-life uses, recycling, and/or end-of-life disposal.
The 2021 edition of @EdelmanPR's annual global Trust Barometer recently came out and contains some fascinating insights relevant to the work of the #EnergyWeb community. (a brief thread)
Insight #1: Globally, people are more concerned about the #climatecrisis than they are about contracting COVID-19.
Insight #2: Three industries highly relevant for #climateaction - energy, automotive, and technology - saw trust backslide from the previous report.
Insight #3: Business is now the most-trusted institution, more than NGOs, government, and media. Overall, business is seen as both ethical AND competent, a powerful combination when applied toward an issue such as #climatechange.
