Due to the nature of my work, I am engaged in battery business quite a bit and as a @Tesla enthusiast I think a lot about batteries.
I think that the three S.Korean #battery makers must be in potential risk right now. here it is.

Samsung SDI accepts the ø46 mm form factor,
but the height of the battery cell is targeting two heights in addition to 4680. (46120??) First of all, the factory will be built for the purpose of supplying batteries to legacy autos such as BMW, but it seems to be preparing for producing 4680 once there is a strategic need
I think it was a good decision considering many possibilities. But not promising competitiveness and capacity comparing other 2 makers.

In the case of SK On, it gets more obscure. This is because they continue to insist on pouches and prismatic batteries,…

Back in 2019, we finished an UG project creating a timeline of #HVDC projects 🌎🌍🌏 and also added the what was then the newly proposed 🇦🇺🇸🇬 #suncable project.

This just looked at one aspect (the most technically challenging of all ⁉️) the undersea cable.

I also wrote a (very short) article for the #VSC #HVDC newsletter that @OfficialUoM Prof. Mike Barnes was editing on the news coming out of Australia

Unpicking the sector takes time, 7yrs & I’ve really only just begun

CEO, analysts, broker research, geologists, chemists, metallurgy, grades, logistics, drilling, financiers, media, marketing & stock promotion
Then there’s working out what Quality, Quantity & Qualification really mean let alone the #Lithium & #Battery supply chain or
Offtake, ESG, ESIA, JV, M&A, supply & demand disconnect.

When analysts are paid to promote they should disclose their links.
Not all do. Why is that?
My first investment in the battery space was a disaster in 2014

Since then I’ve done a lot better based on my extensive research & by learning from & alongside several private investors who have a real depth of knowledge.

Be wary of ulterior motives.

The Concord project opted to go with Solar (PV) connected to an energy storage system (battery storage) in lieu of a backup generator.

This system has been designed to keep the critical loads for the home operational even if the utility power is knocked out.
This includes the backup heating and domestic hot water system (gas boiler with radiant floor heat + indirect hot water tank), the refrigerator, freezer, microwave, TV/WiFi, lighting and receptacles in strategic areas.
The Generac PwrCell provides 18 kWh of battery storage in a single cabinet, and up to 9 kW of continuous power output, enough to power the critical loads for extended periods of time. It can also be expanded to 36 kWh of battery storage in the future should it ever be needed.

The story of how @Altris_ab came to be and my involvement in PBA research is also a nice one. It was really a combination of the right people meeting at the right time and at the right place.
It began with Ronnie Mogensen, who was working on polymer electrolytes at the time and just needed a reliable positive electrode that was easy to make. He tried NaFePO4 which didn't always function. Then he turned to NaxFe[Fe(CN)6]. This always worked to a reasonable degree

But first, I think it is good to generally introduce what a Li or Na-ion #battery is built up from. While I am not an electrochemist by any stretch, I do work a lot with batteries and will mention them often.
A battery is comprised of four key components. Two electrodes connected to an external circuit: a positive (high potential) and a negative (lower potential) electrode. These are electrically isolated from each other by a separator soaked in electrolyte allowing ions to pass. Image
The electrons pass via an external circuit where they perform work during battery use. Both the positive and negative electrode materials need to accept both electrons and ions (such as Li+) reversibly. Designing materials which can do this is quite challenging.

I struggle to see this as anything more than a land grab and a way to limit investment/deployment. @FERC Orders 841/2222 make it very clear the goal for a new modern grid, and this type of feet dragging only hurts Michiganders.

We can't have it both ways!

More dynamic renewables mean that storage will be key to any large scale solar/wind deployment. The lack of that will just put a higher reliance on legacy utility-scale generation (i.e. Coal and Natural Gas)
