Today, I am calling on Premier @jkenney to immediately re-introduce public health measures to protect Albertans from the rising danger of the COVID-19 pandemic’s third wave.

Albertans’ lives are at stake and there are proven measures that could be protecting them. 1/10 #ableg
The Premier laid out a compelling case to take action and then failed to act. Jason Kenney is a weak and ineffective premier. 2/10 #ableg #abhealth
In his remarks on April 1, just before the Easter long weekend, Kenney said, “we know with great certainty that we will have close to 500 COVID patients in hospital just two weeks from now. If growth continues on its current pace, that will turn into about 1,000..." 3/10 #ableg
Kenney also described the new COVID variants as “more virulent” and “more lethal.”

Let’s be clear. Jason Kenney said that hundreds upon hundreds of people will be hospitalized in the next 14 days and then did absolutely nothing to prevent it. 4/10 #ableg #abhealth
He said if we stay on this current path we will have 1,000 people in hospital with COVID inside of a month — more than we have ever seen at any point in this pandemic — and yet he did nothing to change course. 5/10 #ableg #abhealth
The Official Opposition is calling for a re-introduction of the government’s January 18 public health restrictions, which effectively contained the uncontrolled spread of COVID-19 in Alberta, but with schools remaining open for the time being. 6/10 #ableg #abhealth
The Opposition also urges the government to convene an urgent conversation with teachers and school districts to determine how to keep students, staff, and families safe through to June. 7/10 #ableg #abhealth
This should include widespread rapid testing in schools, dedicated school contact tracing, the hiring of additional staff, and the creation of an Alberta Learn From Home fund. 8/10 #ableg #abhealth
Renewed restrictions wll require renewed support for Albertans, including the $125 million in unspent money from the Small Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant program, and the more than $100 million in federal money meant for the still-unlaunched Alberta Jobs Now program. 9/10
As well, Jason Kenney must release the internal modelling and written recommendations from Dr. Deena Hinshaw that he has hidden from Albertans. He must re-introduce the measures that effectively contained the spread of COVID over the winter — and he must do it today. 10/10 #ableg

We have been overwhelmed with concerns from students, parents, teachers, subject matter experts and more about the curriculum put forward by Jason Kenney.

#abed #ableg
We’ve heard from Albertans that the curriculum being proposed will not prepare students for advanced education, for their careers and for their lives in general.
Premier Kenney's curriculum jeopardizes our economy by not providing children with the essential critical-thinking skills they need to succeed in a modern workplace and by implementing outdated educational practices that discourage more parents from choosing Alberta.

Have received a shocking electricity/utility bill of late?

We’ve heard from thousands of Albertans dealing with these massive bills at a time when they can least afford them.

In response, we’re calling for the following four actions:

1/5 #ableg
➡️ Provide direct consumer relief to two-thirds of Albertans (those earning up to $55,000 annually as an individual or $102,500 per couple). 2/5 #ableg
We want to model the relief program after the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program offered in Ontario, which provided customers $750 in support both their electricity and natural gas bills. Consumers can apply for relief on both bills separately 3/5 #ableg

The Alberta NDP is renewing its call for a full public inquiry into the tragic COVID-19 outbreaks at Cargill and other processing plants. 1/6 #AbLeg #abhealth…
We are deeply disturbed by newly released documents that show UCP Agriculture Minister Devin Dreeshen was notified by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw on April 18, 2020, that two CFIA workers had contracted COVID-19 inside the High River-area plant. 2/6 #ableg
That same day, mere hours after receiving this disturbing information, Dreeshen, Hinshaw and Labour Minister Jason Copping held a town hall meeting with Cargill workers and told them their workplace was safe. 3/6 #ableg #abhealth

The UCP government has passed Budget 2021.

It fails to deliver a plan to create jobs, diversify Alberta’s economy, or specify how it will spend billions of dollars in contingency funding.

#ableg #abpoli #alberta #ab #abbudget2021 #budget #abbudget #ucp #abeconomy
Budget 2021’s signature Alberta Jobs Now strategy commits the government to getting $62 million out the door in the next four business days, but the program has yet to be launched.

And while the budget promises “sector strategies,” they remain under construction with no estimate for additional job creation.

We are calling for necessary actions to get to the bottom of the senseless, tragic deaths and illnesses at the Olymel plant in Red Deer. #ableg #abpoli #yql #covid #covid19 #covid19ab #abcovid19 #abcovid
First, we are calling for an immediate public inquiry into the mishandling of the COVID-19 outbreak at the Olymel plant by both the UCP Government and the corporation that operates the facility.
This coincides with the inquiry call we’ve already made regarding the 1,500 cases and two deaths at the Cargill plant in High River as well as the 650 cases and one death of a worker at JBS in Brooks.
