Perhaps experts publicly sharing their takes on AZ #CovidVaccine can consider a DM group chat. Remember your discourse on this public platform is open to everyone incl. non-experts who are fearful, confused & now feeling betrayed.
To the non-expert public a 🧵for you ⤵️ #COVID19
1) If you're feeling conflicted & having doubts/regrets re: taking the AZ #CovidVaccine esp. after a few comms failures & public expert discourse,
Please read 🧵⤵️, it will help explain what you're seeing & not take it as final word:
2) This is an extremely important 🧵 by @MPaiMD who outlines all the things you need to know about the rare but serious side effect of AZ #CovidVaccine: what to look for & what to do if you have the symptoms. L
Also, please remember that @GovCanHealth has found AZ #CovidVaccine to be effective & safe from available data. #NACI & @COVIDSciOntario have added info on risk/benefit of getting the vaccine. All SE are being monitored & there are treatments for VITT.
Not my most eloquent 🧵, but I felt it was necessary considering all the fears & questions many of us are getting bc of the ongoing discussions happening on twitter. #MedTwitter#epitwitter etc. have a responsibility to our non-expert public. Let's not contribute to chaos.
Adding another 🔥🧵 by @heysciencesam on AZ #CovidVaccine situation. Be aware & not scared. The more clear, contextual information you have, will empower you & your decision making. We got you!
▶️ Blood clots can occur 4 to 28 days post 💉 & associated w/ ⬇️ platelets
▶️ These clots...are more aggressive and are more likely to cause death or severe disability...
▶️ Rate of VITT in Canada has been estimated to be ~1/ 100k doses 2/
Re: contraindication: It may be possible... people with a history of HIT or CSVT w/ ⬇️ platelets are at ⬆️ risk of VITT; they should receive an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) rather than an adenoviral vector vaccine. 3/
I'm understandably still receiving Qs from concerned & worried people about the clotting events observed in #AstraZeneca#CovidVaccine (& J&J recently in the US).
So here's a 🧵 of resources from some people I respect & trust to speak on the topic ⤵️ #COVIDー19#scicomm#science
.@MPaiMD & @SabiVM wrote a very well scientifically balanced piece covering the risks involved (very rare although serious) w/ the clotting events. Every single thing we do & every medicine/treatment we take involves risk. BUT context is impt. #scicomm thestar.com/amp/opinion/co…
I'm in meetings for most of the day & resurfaced to even more stupid decisions? #onpoli
What is this crap re: blaming people for complacency, hard hit communities for not knowing to book vaccine appts in this convoluted mess & MORE police presence? THIS AIN'T IT! #COVID19ON
We all feel the same. STUPID DECISION MAKING.
MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS. LIKE THE ONES THE EXPERTS HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT FOR EONS...YOU KNOW... LIKE #PaidSickDays and STOP FINGER POINTING FOR POOR #COVID19Vaccine logistics and GIVE essential workers Vaccines!
