He was an Olympian, multiple champion of 🇵🇱 in the 5000, 10000 & cross country running but also a tram driver.
Noji could have been registered for the "Volksliste" in the 1930s as he had 🇩🇪 roots, but he strictly refused, and joined the 🇵🇱 resistance when #WWII broke out.
He was arrested on 18 Sep'40 and was initially kept at #Pawiak. After a year, he was transported to @auschwitz, where in Feb'43, in death block 11, he was shot in the neck for allegedly smuggling a letter. He was posthumously awarded the Cross of Valor.
Currently there is a street Nojego in Auschwitz, named for him, as well as a municipal stadium named Nojiego Cross en route from Pęckowo to Wielenia.

During the first days of WWII, Rawa was heavily bombed, and its population was severely affected. The Germans entered the town on Sept. 8, 1939, at which time males were gathered in the market square, where the Germans indulged in a sadistic game.
Among other things, many of the dignitaries, mostly aged, were made to run several kilometres in the direction of Tomaszów. In a nearby wood the Germans threatened to kill them.
Throughout his 26-year pontificate, one of #JPII most used phrase was, “Do not be afraid”
John Paul II reflected on that phrase in the book Crossing the Threshold of Hope, and explained that it was the Holy Spirit who inspired him to say those words on October 22, 1978.
"When, I said the words “Be not afraid!” in St. Peter’s Square, I could not fully know how far they would take me and the entire Church. Their meaning came more from the Holy Spirit, the Consoler promised by the Lord Jesus to His disciples, than from the man who spoke them"
"The exhortation 'Be not afraid'should be interpreted as having a very broad meaning. In a certain sense it was an exhortation addressed to all people, an exhortation to conquer fear in the present world situation. Why should we have no fear? Because man has been redeemed by God"

@ZelenskyyUa also thanked 🇵🇱 and 🇱🇻 for “historic” military assistance, for their efforts “to help unblock €5 bln in macro-financial assistance from the 🇪🇺” & for “supporting Ukraine’s bid to become a candidate to join the 🇪🇺.”
One of #Poland’s megaprojects is nearing completion, and the #Russian invasion of #Ukraine has made it more crucial than initially imagined. A thread 🧵:
On the photo: Vistula Spit canal at night
The new canal that will cut across the Vistula Spit, giving ships access to the 🇵🇱 port of Elbląg without having to ask 🇷🇺 for permissioe. It will open 17 Sep. It is unlikely that the date, also the anniversary of the invasion of eastern 🇵🇱 in '39 by 🇷🇺, was chosen at random 😉
Moscow is not pleased with the development, arguing that it will allow #NATO warships to enter the Vistula Lagoon without passing by the watchful eyes of 🇷🇺 military facilities at Baltiysk. An entire campaign was carried out by 🇷🇺 to spread disinformation gov.pl/web/sluzby-spe…
#Lukashenko wants to limit rights of citizens with ‘Pole’s Card’
This is a document confirming that a person belongs to the 🇵🇱 people. Since it's introduction in 2008 more than 140,000 🇧🇾 received the document.
The cardholder has a number of non-civilian rights. #Poland#Belarus
Amongst others the the card allows you to get a long-term national 🇵🇱 visa for free, work legally in 🇵🇱 without a special permit, & use the education system for free, engage in business activities in 🇵🇱 on the same basis as 🇵🇱 citizens, have a discount on travel in transport, etc
One of the threats Lukashenko put forward is the deprivation of citizenship...
The Grand Duchy of #Lithuania, united with #Poland in 1386 under the rule of the Jagiellons. In July, 1514, a Muscovite army took Smoleńsk. In response, a great 🇵🇱-🇱🇹 force marched out from the region of Wilna to reconquer the city #PolishHistory#history#RussiaIsATerroristState
There were about 35,000 soldiers, consisting of 15,000 🇱🇹 general levy, 17,000 mercenary 🇵🇱 cavalry & infantry w/large artillery & 3,000 volunteer cavalry consisting of 🇵🇱 magnates. The Muscovite forces, twice as numerous, were constituted in traditional fashion. @CraigM_Regan
🇷🇺 Czeladnin decided to give battle near Orsha, in the place where Dnieper bends southward. In a first line, over a front of about three kilometers he deployed his detachment of the vanguard, which reached the river bank with its right wing; behind these stood. @LanguageIearner
