One of #Polandโs megaprojects is nearing completion, and the #Russian invasion of #Ukraine has made it more crucial than initially imagined. A thread ๐งต:
On the photo: Vistula Spit canal at night
The new canal that will cut across the Vistula Spit, giving ships access to the ๐ต๐ฑ port of Elblฤ g without having to ask ๐ท๐บ for permissioe. It will open 17 Sep. It is unlikely that the date, also the anniversary of the invasion of eastern ๐ต๐ฑ in '39 by ๐ท๐บ, was chosen at random ๐
Moscow is not pleased with the development, arguing that it will allow #NATO warships to enter the Vistula Lagoon without passing by the watchful eyes of ๐ท๐บ military facilities at Baltiysk. An entire campaign was carried out by ๐ท๐บ to spread disinformation gov.pl/web/sluzby-speโฆ
The canal will make it possible for ships to sail across the Vistula Lagoon from the port of Elblฤ g straight to the Baltic Sea. Currently, they must sail around the spit via the Strait of Baltiysk, a part of ๐ท๐บ territorial waters and which Moscow could deny access to on a whim.
Apart from the benefit of the Port of Elblฤ g gaining direct access to the Baltic Sea without being dependent on ๐ท๐บ permissions, ships heading to and from the port will be spared the 100 km detour through Russian waters.
The canal will help companies save time and fuel costs, spurring economic development in the area. At the same time, there will also be advantages for the environment in the form of less greenhouse gas emissions and less pollution.
Check out this clip for an excellent overview of the topic as presented by @TVPWorld_com 's @michalrachon

During the first days of WWII, Rawa was heavily bombed, and its population was severely affected. The Germans entered the town on Sept. 8, 1939, at which time males were gathered in the market square, where the Germans indulged in a sadistic game.
Among other things, many of the dignitaries, mostly aged, were made to run several kilometres in the direction of Tomaszรณw. In a nearby wood the Germans threatened to kill them.
Throughout his 26-year pontificate, one of #JPII most used phrase was, โDo not be afraidโ
John Paul II reflected on that phrase in the book Crossing the Threshold of Hope,ย and explained that it was the Holy Spirit who inspired him to say those words on October 22, 1978.
"When, I said the words โBe not afraid!โ in St. Peterโs Square, I could not fully know how far they would take me and the entire Church. Their meaning came more from the Holy Spirit, the Consoler promised by the Lord Jesus to His disciples, than from the man who spoke them"
"The exhortation 'Be not afraid'should be interpreted as having a very broad meaning. In a certain sense it was an exhortation addressed to all people, an exhortation to conquer fear in the present world situation. Why should we have no fear? Because man has been redeemed by God"

#Lukashenko wants to limit rights of citizens with โPoleโs Cardโ
This is a document confirming that a person belongs to the ๐ต๐ฑ people. Since it's introduction in 2008 more than 140,000 ๐ง๐พ received the document.

The Grand Duchy of #Lithuania, united with #Poland in 1386 under the rule of the Jagiellons. In July, 1514, a Muscovite army took Smoleลsk. In response, a great ๐ต๐ฑ-๐ฑ๐น force marched out from the region of Wilna to reconquer the city #PolishHistory#history#RussiaIsATerroristState

Noji could have been registered for the "Volksliste" in the 1930s as he had ๐ฉ๐ช roots, but he strictly refused, and joined the ๐ต๐ฑ resistance when #WWII broke out.
He was arrested on 18 Sep'40 and was initially kept at #Pawiak. After a year, he was transported to @auschwitz, where in Feb'43, in death block 11, he was shot in the neck for allegedly smuggling a letter. He was posthumously awarded the Cross of Valor.
